doctor not available on the day of coughing.

Hi everyone,

I feel terrible, i.e, short of breath, coughing, terrible sweat at night and lethargic and shaky, wobbly, during the day with lots of sputum and hot and cold all the time.

Tuesday, I phoned my surgery. “Your doctor is off today, would you like another one? We’ve an appointment at 3.20 pm”. But taxis are booked by council to go and fetch children at school. I find no friend available either.. So I’ve to cancel my appointment.

”The said doctor will phone you, then”.

I don’t know what went wrong but I only got a message. The doctor said “I think I know you, so I’m sending an antibiotic”.

Wed morning, my usual doctor is back, I decide to have a home visit. Thank god, she’s an efficient woman. She tested my O2, 93. Tested my chest, I sent a sputum sample. She prescribed the right antibiotic – Clarythromycin, not ciprofloxacin ( I don’t need that strong a drug yet)

So tonight, I took my drug and pray it’ll work.

About prayer, I do believe in it. But at church, we share the peace. A well intentioned lady who had a voice extinction, kissed me! I’m also suspicious of the bread and wine sharing. Everybody sucks at the same chalice, and the assistant wipes it with a little cloth, not the best of hygiene during the coughing season!

Hope you‘re well.

Am a atheist so not up on all this wine but if its silver its very good at repelling germs .. Ad say you don't have to pray because its good stuff that.

But hay if it makes you feel better and its what you believe in it will do you no harm

Cheers all the best :)

Hi, hope you feel better soon. Some people dip the wafer into the wine. Might work. Glad I have my faith. Without it I would be more stressed and would miss the fellowship of lovely, caring people. Good luck :-) :-) Alison

Hope your abs work soon. Im a believer too. M

Sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly. It is horrible - glad you have got the right antibiotics and your own doctor is so efficient. Give them a day or so and they should start working. Very difficult but I tend to agree that it is not the most hygienic practise passing the chalice etc. - perhaps you could forgo in winter when the germs are at their best! Faith is a deeply personal issue and I am glad you have yours and are able to find peace. Take good care of yourself TAD xx

It is great to hear some can get doctors appointment with ease and even home visits. I had a letter from my surgery saying I needed to talk to a doctor urgently about my blood test results. Panic. Phoned the surgery....fist available appointment in ten days time but only a telephone. Very reluctantly accepted as no chance of change even after I told them about the letter. Phoned every day for a cancellation....diddly squat. The appointed time came, the phone rang and , yes, it was a doctor. I told him about the letter and he looked at my results and pronounced " No need for panic here. Everything is fine and under control." "What about this letter?2 said bewildered me. "Oh, must have sent the wrong letter out, these things happen".....Phone went dead. Two weeks of panicking and all I rate is a sorry.

I regularly receive such letters after a test has been done. I tend to stay aloof, because the doc won't panic much. If you were really bad, they'd send an ambulance and take you to hospital! Here in the Canterbury area, we phone after 2 for test results. The answer is usually very bland! It's a formality that must be done to set the records, so they know that you know that they know, sort of thing!
