'Well at least you tried.'

I'll always remember my first spirometry test. I was wheelchaired up from the hospital ward and into a room with lots of windows and through them I could see this wonderfull Blue sky and a bright yellow thing beaming its light down on me. Wow I said to the technician who was going to do the test, 'this is an amaizing room what a view', of course he had no idea that I had'nt seen the sun and a clear blue sky for around 3 months, to me this was a big deal ! The emotions were running out of control again and tears were flowing, Oh god I thought get a flipping grip, but after ITU and living in a ward that was like a damned dungeon/ oven combined seeing a view like this gave me massive lift. I was on a high so why was I crying? It seems as though I only cry when I'm happy which is a little weird but at least people around me seem to understand and let me get it out of my system and then we get on. Right it was time too start blowing down that tube for the first time, foolishly I thought it would be easy, how wrong can you be! I blew as hard as I could and for as long as I could while the man asked for more, more more. Well I turned a few shade's of purple and then went grey and the technician looked down at me and said 'Well at least you tried' It seems that my lungs were so weak that I registered very little on his spiro machine and he decided to end it there for my own safety so that was it, Since that day just over 2 years ago Iv'e had lots of spirometry tests but none have stuck in my memory like the first,Its still the same room and technician but the machine is bigger and I'm a lot stronger so I take it on now as a challenge and always try and beat my last test figure's. On my last test I did show slight improvement which was the best news and we put it down to being inspired by the olympics and the increased exercise that I have done since. :) Perhaps we should start our own spirometry para/olympics! eh' Remember don't fear the spiro test take it on and show it who's boss!!
