Drink more

Trying to pack in the cigs and finding a few more beers are going down because there is more time to drink when you are not smoking and I feel better for having the extra but what was being saved on cigs is turning into beer is this normal when I have tried before not got beyond a day or more and it is nearly a month now.

I packed in smoking nearly 4 years ago the easy way using Champix , prescribed by the Stop Smoking Clinic at my GPs. I nearly went out to get fags a couple of time but fortunately turned round. I cant say that felt a particular craving but it was more a sense of loss.

I gave up at that time because I was conscious that I was beginning to be short of breath Truth to tell I think that was the start of my COPD (I was diagnosed 2 years later).

Hi Rose,

I am more than impressed since If I remember correctly you are doing it Cold Turkey. I had the crutch of Champix to help me.

The start of every journey starts with one step and giving up the weed means a longer life for those with COPD.

Keep making those steps and in the words of the song 'Things can only get better'

regards

David

Hi Mart60 I think its brilliant that you are kicking the fags into tough.

Drinking more is probably not good for you - but its much better than smoking! x

Be careful, the effect of drinking more is a bigger waistline and that can be a bothersome as having the smokers cough!

I gave up 4 years ago, no problems stopping, a bit of help from Champix, but used what money I saved to buy drink, to try and help me 'forget' the cigs. I also found myself nibbling more, the dreaded sweeties 'instead of a cig' - I put on 4 stone in 4 years and can't get rid of it. None of my mini-skirts fit any more... Oops, too much info ;-)

Got to cool your jets there buddy swapping one thing for another that does not figure on the healthy lifestyle league you need to be in for life will never work though guessing you already know that and dont need more pressure. Follow your head not your heart quitting smoking is the top health tip that any body will tell you, find a way of making it happen.

after ditching the cigs, yes, snacking and weight increased. what helped, was chewing on tree-tea oil infused thick toothpics, no calories, yes mouth busy, esp while in office. Also at home, taking up a needlework project to keep fingers holding something other than the cancer=copd sticks. tried a whittling class but cut my finger.
