For a few days now I have had a really sore throat but it hasn't developed into a cold. I am not on any new medication, any idea what it could be, it really hurts.

Hi Gilly.
I,m led to believe that if your medication includes an inhaler with steroids in.this can cause oral thrush if you don,t gargle/rinse after every inhalation.could be the cause of your sore throat.????? good luck x
Gilly, oral thrush makes your throat increasingly sore, really hurts to swallow and you can get a burning sensation. You cannot always see anything in your throat, the white spots can be too far down. If you use a steroid inhaler it could well be that, as pedantic says, because even if you do rinse your throat, you can still get it occasionally. If it's thrush your doctor can give you something which usually fixes it quite quickly.
Auntymary x
Could be thrush as I am on a steroid inhaler. I gargle and rinse every time but maybe I am not doing it right. Thanks for your answers guys, I will make an appointment.
I get this occasionally gillyj and I do agree with the above.
But I think sometimes your body can be fighting a cold which doesnt develop and the sore throat can be a sympton of this.
I know it sounds gross but I gargle with diluted TCP (yuck) but it does seem to help if it is germs which are causing it. x
I had this and doc said it was a fungal infection.
Thanks for all your advice. I managed to see the Dr this morning and she has given me some nyststin so hopefully it will go soon. These B****y side effect are soooo annoying its bad enough coping with the condition.
