Is fifty young to be diagnosed with copd?

copd.
Hello mumsy
People tend to think of COPD as an 'old' person's disease, but I was 52 when I was diagnosed back in 2000. I have heard of people as young as 38 being diagnosed with this though.
I don't think it's young mumsy, it's the way life is today I think. There are no set rules and no matter how good or bad you are healthwise it doesn't differentiate. Take smoking. We all know people who have died from lung cancer and have never smoked a day their life. And we all know people who have smoked all their lives and live till their 90's with nothing wrong. Maybe its a genes thing. Who knows.
As long as you take care of you as soon as you are diagnosed and adapt your lifestyle there is nothing stopping you from living a fulfilling life. Be positive because it is not the end of the world xx
I agree with the above mumsy. I don't think 52 is very young to be diagnosed with a lung problem.
Take good care of yourself and you could live to be 96 in reasonably good health - at least as good as any other 96 year old! xx
Oops sorry 50 x
If people have more smokes then it will change how soon the damage can happen so more people younger is a sad thing that can happen when our parents smoked less than we did and not with chemicals in things have changed on how soon it will be found you have lung disease.
I have recently been diagnosed at 40 but they think have had it for at least 7 years...
i was diagnosed at 30 with COPD and Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency and have seen a lot of young people with this at my Transplant Hospital in London. I'm quite happy today though as my health has been stable really and i now have just finished some steroids and am off my O2 this morning and giving my poor dried up nostrils a rest which feels heavenly lol
life is about the little things which is wot I've come to realize with this illness.
i was diagnosed last yr when i was 43, i have had the syptoms for 8 years coughing fits also choking while eating my food and blacking out
I was diagnosed in April this year with C.Bronchitis and Asthma, I'm 49, never smoked. People do seem to get this young at times.
I think if you catch copd early enough or if you are fit enough you have every chance to combat it to change life style and you can live to a good age . It seems from the above comments there is little age barrier to copd
hi I was diagnosed when I was in my late 30's
