I can recommend boiling a litre of water, then adding fresh or dried sage leaves to it, let it brew, then filter it, allow to cool then gurgle with that and at the end after a while of gurgling try to drink just a sip of it, if you make it too strong you probably will not like the bitter taste, but, this releases mucous and will calm your system.
Do it as many times in a day as you like or can take, depending on whether you detest the taste or don't mind it too much, or even like it.
You can drop milk products such as milky tea and use natural products, based on herbs, this includes thyme, sage, and a very good one for you, chamomile which tastes lovely and is also anti-inflammatory/antiseptic.
You can drink chamomile as tea, and if you do not make it too strong, you will not need to add sweeteners such as sugar,.
Thank you TJohn, I will give the sage a go. A friend has given me some Mullein tea to try, does anyone know anything about it?
Hi Polly, hope you are feeling better soon, keep an eye on you symptoms as Stitch suggests, to be sure its not a lung infection developing.
If its an air born irritant causing it hot drinks will help soothe your throat adding honey, lemon, etc. as already suggested and sucking lemon and honey lockets lozenge.
If you take any herb regularly as a medicine, check with your doc its okay for you to do so, also check online about drug compatible with herbs intending to use. Drugs.com can help with this but there are other sites also.
