Thanks everyone for the experience, advice and encouragement. I found that everything you said enhancedced what I could find out on the Brompton website - you folks aren't paid website creators - and you give me your honest opinions.

I'm beginning to think of bloggers here as my tribe.

hi frank - I've been going to the Brompton for about 15yrs and the care is 2nd to none, it's 50miles away but I always say I'd crawl there on my hands & knees if I had to, it's that good! My consultant is wonderful, just seeing her does me good, so positive, caring and cheerful.

My sister always drives me up & we've never had any trouble parking fairly nearby, there are 2hrly spaces but we always get a 4hrly one, either just opposite in Foulis Terrace or in one of the roads just off it. Parking is £4 per hour, not too bad for central london. But if you need it you can phone the transport dept and they will reserve you a hospital space right behind the building in Dudmaston Mews. You will need quite a while for your 1st appt as you will probably have tests and may need to see the physios etc.

The hospital is no longer in the congestion zone so no need to worry about that.

The reason we always park for 4hrs is that after my appt we always pop next door to The Crown for something to eat & a glass or two of wine for me!

I hope your appointment goes well. Who will you be seeing, do you know? xxx

sorry, ps - remember, a lot of pts there are very sick so the staff are well used to giving help, nothing is too much trouble for these guys, just ask for whatever you need - I'd phone the transport dept and book one of the reserved spaces if I were you

btw I waited about 8 weeks from referral to first appt, then a few more weeks to be admitted for all the diagnostic tests which they like to do - think that's fairly common x

My son has just been to the Brompton for sarcoidosis of the lungs. He has had this condition for 3 years and been going to his local hospital. He rang me and said 'this place is amazing, I have learnt more about my condition and had more tests either done or arranged in this one visit than I have had in 3 years'

Hi Lynnalyson, I too have chronic sarcoidosis and PF. It was diagnosed in 99 when i was admitted to hospital for chest pains. I asked for referral to brompton after 7 years of nothing happening with the doctors at my local hospital and on my first time at the Brompton I said exactly the same as your son, I had more tests in one day than i had in 7 years at my local hospital. He's right it is amazing. I honestly think I would be dead by now if i hadn't asked for that referral
