Sorry about all these questions. Sometimes I find myself literally gasping for breath. I try to keep calm until my breathing returns to something near normal. Has anyone any suggestions of how I can get my breath back quicker ? Although I have had this condition for just over a year I am still not used to slowing down all the time and tend to overdo things.

Puff, I don't think there is a way to get your breath back quicker What you really should be doing is trying to learn how to take things more slowly. That way, you wouldn't get so breathless in the first place
I know from personal experience that this isn't easy, but I think it's the only way.
Good luck !
Yes best to pace yourself, slowly but surely it's awful when you get to that stage of just about near panic it's just not worth it I hate that feeling Val
Thanks for all the replies. I admit I should slow down but some days I walk to the kitchen and it happens when I don't expect it.
On saying that. I was at work this evening and my breathing was a lot better than when I smoked. Not quite normal but not far off. If it stayed like that all the time I would be happy. One extreme to the other sometimes.
Trouble Is, we all have to think 10 steps ahead
Hi there Puff,
I agree with everything that has been said, unfortunatley you are like the majority of us we just find it difficult to accept that we have to slow down. I have finally come to terms with this and, I must say although it is frustrating it does have its benefits. One of the exercises I have been shown is to put one hand on my abdomen and the other on my chest, I then have to push my abdomen out while breathing in whilst not lifting my chest, then breathe out as far as I can, this helps with getting more oxygen into our lungs, it also focusus our brain into doing something constructive.
Stay focused, relax and keep your chin up. Your not alone.
Regards Linda
