Hi Castle, I have been on oxygen now for around 4 months, and I can honestly say I feel so much better for it. I have more confidence, cope with the panic much better, and taking a shower is a far better experience. Sleeping with the canula is no problem once you get used to it. Please don't despair over this, its not as bad as you think. Hope this helps you.

Dear Castle,

I was devastated and in shock too when i first needed long term oxygen, I felt like i had failed some how.

Don't despair, i found that feeling of coping so well came back ten fold when I realised i was so much better for having it.

The tubing around the house can take a little getting used to from the concentrator, but after a week or so you dont even notice it. Personally i have found liquid oxygen with the portable unit to be the easiest to manage for out and about, it can be a little tricky at times to fill though.

Has an oxygen nurse visited yet to go through all your options?

Wishing you the very best of luck and know you are not alone xxx

So sorry to hear this Castle. Don't think though that your life will stop just because your need to use oxygen for 15 hours a day.

Its still possible to get out and about with oxygen and still enjoy life, people do still exercise whilst wearing oxygen, shop, holiday etc. Just get a few tips from your respiratory nurse on what to be aware of when you are being active, or going out and about, whilst using the oxygen.

Keep in touch here there will be loads of people to help you through the early days of using 0xygen.

Hope you will be feeling more optimistic soon. You may be surprised at how much having the Oxygen can help you.

Trust me for getting the title of this thread wrong, as I do with most things.

The big O, for me was the unmentionable.

Orgasm

Felt a bit deflated when I realised that it was relating to 15 hours a day of O2, mind you I have a weak bladder and less than sound pelvic floor plumbing to contend with, but that's another "unmentionable" story

[quote]This is a new opportunity castle it was a hard fight to get the oxygen needed to keep my fitness. Not a setback to feel sad about but a new chapter.

Keep a positive focus and grasp this with both hands to halt progression with the benefits of exercise.[unquote]

I can only echo the above comment Castle. The oxygen will help you to lead a fuller life. I know it's been hugely beneficial to me (I was prescribed 16 hours per day a little under three months ago).

Of the 15 hours prescribed for you, at least half of those can be whilst you sleep, so it's not so bad after all :)

Keep calm and carry on ..............

Wow I'm totally overcome by your kind thoughtful comments, thank you so much i feel loads more positive. Guess the next step is to prepare myself, the biggest problem will be work, Ive just started a new job and work shifts, often of 12 or 13 hrs (mortgage to pay). First though I need to appologise to the nurse and retract all I said the other day oops! Thank you all once again
