Dymista

I have suffered with sinusitis since long before I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis but I have managed to to keep it ticking along with a Beconase/Beclometasone nasal spray. Then I started suffering from allergic rhinitis so was put on certirizine but it affected my bronchiectasis by making my cough worse despite what my GP was telling me me. So when I have a bad attack I just take a quarter of a tablet (laratadine is just the same).

Anyway, I was referred to ENT because I lost my sense of smell but a CT scan just showed fluid in my sinuses consistent with allergies. They are suggesting to my GP that they try Dymista nasal spray (flucticasone with a azelastine) but I’m wary as to how it will affect my bronchiectasis.

Has anyone got any experience of using it?

Thanks for your reply. That doesn’t sound nice. Does the Dymista thicken the nasal fluid then or just dry the nose?

Dymista contains both a steroid and an antihistamine. I have been using it for several years and find it very good. Just be careful to point the spray away from your septum ( the middle, dividing bit inside your nose) as it can make it a bit sore in my experience. It hasn't affected my lungs ( bad asthma with allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis)! Well worth a try. I use mine at breakfast time and again just before I go to bed.

Thanks for your reply. I think that I will give it a try if I need to. While I’m not currently experiencing problems I will just keep with what I am using for now.

Hi I too suffer from allergies, allergic rhinitis, and chronic sinusitis asthma plus bronch. I have used Mometasone Furoate Nasal spray for years now. I was sent a year ago to see ENT specialist who tried me on Nasal drops which were awful and didn't give me any relief, so after a Ct scan I was put back on my usual spray. I can say in all honesty that the medications I take have helped me stay well and do not interfere with my Bronch in any way. Going onto Azthromycin changed my life. It is my miracle tablet. I have suffered with Bronch for 15 years now.and I am feeling really well. One thing, you say you have antihistamines and they have made you feel your cough was worse. I take three different antihistamines depending on the time of year and none of them make me cough. In fact my Bronch cough has gone all together. Do go back to your Gp and tell them how you are feeling. I wish you good luck and take care. Maximonkey

Thank you for your reply. It is good that your antihistamines do not interfere with your bronchiectasis. For the moment I don’t need them and my nasal passages seem clear. I’ll speak to my GP again if I start having problems again. Take care.
