I have a two-week course of co-amoxiclav when I have an exacerbation and it always works well for me, with no side effects apart from mild diarrhoea. I’ve had several different types of antibiotics in the past and, for me, co-amoxiclav has the fewest side effects and agrees with me best.
When reading the side effects on any leaflet I only register the 'one in a thousand' patients reactions figuring I won't be the one in ten thousand to be unlucky. If a bad reaction then I'd contact GP immediately or 111. The only antibiotic that's affected me badly was Erithromycin. Some abs give me a runny tum but I treat myself (as I do the dog) and eat plenty of rice. Good luck White, co-amoxiclav is a good one for me
Eurythromycim (can't spell it) made me very ill also ..would never want to experience that again . Hope you are well xx.Sheila
To be honest I found this one of the easiest AB to take. No side effects (I found) - I understand any side effects are normally mild - I had no side effects at all.
I’ve just finished a course of Co-amoxiclav and had no side effects. I took with food each time to avoid tummy issues. I hope it works well for you.
Sorry to be a miseriguts, but I felt quite ill on this one. Thankfully it was only a 5 day course and I managed to finish it. Obviously we are all different , so you may well be one of the lucky ones.
Hello, have been prescribed this a few times. No side effects noted.
With any antibiotics we should be taking care of our gut flora and antibiotics kill off the good and less good flora. So taking prebiotics and probiotics is a good idea.
I use acidophilus and lots of kefir and yogurt whilst taking them to help my gut flora remain happy.
Go well,
Pauline
I take two week courses if I get a respiratory infection and have not noticed any side effects.
Yes, I was fine with it, except a little bit of thrush. Unfortunately it didn't clear up my infection though.
I have taken Co-amoxiclav when in the hospital a couple of times and it has worked well, although my gp won't give this to me when I asked , she just said it was a powerful antibiotic and I would be OK with Doxy. Hope it gives the relief you need x
Amoxicolav has always worked well for me. I maybe had a touch of tummy ache c
Hi Whit. Sorry to cast a damper on things, but I had a dreadful reaction to co-amoxiclav. All I can remember is feeling horrible then everything went black . Paramedics came and checked out my current meds. and said it could have been a drug inter-reaction. I was taking Verapamil at the time and A&E doctors said it was contraindicated with these antibiotics. GP hadn't checked. Same thing happened with Erythromycin so now I always ask if any new medication is OK to take with my other meds. It is now written on my notes, too!
We are all different, however, and I'm sure this is very rare so maybe check with your pharmacist if in doubt.
Yes. That was the antibiotic I received when I had Covid DESPITE it stating in my records that I am allergic to penicillin. Actually what it means is that my body does not respond to penicillin so .....after such delay, I now have emphysema!! But have to admit that, at no time did I experience any side effects. Blessings and love
Co-Amoxiclav 500/125 is my rescue antibiotic & I’ve never had any side effects at all. I took the lower dose (250/125) 3 times daily as a prophylactic for about 3 years & never had a problem either. Please bear in mind that Pharmaceutical companies list every possible side effect to cover themselves from legal action, as much as for the patients benefit.
Co-amoxiclav was my rescue antibiotic for many years and worked well for me with no side effects. It might be a coincidence that I have lots of plain Greek yoghurt? Unfortunately it doesn’t help me with pseudomonas these days ☹️
My mum was on this and found it gave her horrific acid reflux. She tried to keep taking it, but she couldn't lie down without bringing up acid, so she had to stop it before the course was finished. She had it IV at a later date in hospital and was fine with that.
