A while ago I asked all you wonderful members about Azithromycin. I pointed out I have suffered with flare ups for a good 3 to 4 years . However the last year was hard and I took antibiotics every month then Wham! they stopped them. I was suffering and struggling, I only have one lung due to previous cancer. Anywayafter reading everyones responses I decided to carry on and push for some results.

To cut a long story short I had I.V. at home which worked up to a point , apparently I have pseudonomas aeruginosa which take some shifting. They then decided to to try for Azithromycin.

It has taken me about 3 weeks waiting for them to decide but AT LAST they approved them today.

So thank you if you were one of the members replying to me. And any tips gratefully received.

☺️xx

Do you know how many mg tablets you’ve been prescribed? I was on 250mg which I took in the morning on a Monday, Wednesday and a Friday. After a few weeks I saw my consultant who told me that research had proved that 500mg tablets taken 3 times a week were supposed to be good for asthma sufferers, which is another of my collection of diseases.

Taking Azithromycin has massively improved my quality of life. Like you I had a bout of back to back infections that wouldn’t clear. Once I started taking Azithromycin, that all changed and I went two years without an infection. I have had one recently but hopefully that’s gone now. I hope they work well got you. Good luck.

Thats cheered me up. ☺️

One query , when you do get an infection do you ake anything or does it go on its own?

Thanks Rosco, x

Sorry to butt in. For years I used to let obvious infections 'get better on their own' wrongly believing my immune system can handle them. Turns out it was a big mistake leading to back to back infections, 5 x pneumonia , lung damage & severely depleted immune system. ......... We with lung issues need to use antibiotics to protect our lungs from further damage . We can have exacerbation with or without infections though so we have to learn which is which (very difficult I know).

10 years later Azithromycin 250mgs on Mon Wed Fri from November to April has really helped to prevent my exacerbations turning into infections causing further lung damage. Good luck. P

My doctor told me to stop the Azithromycin whilst taking a course of Co-amoxiclav for 10 days and then restart it straight afterwards if the infection cleared. This seems to have been the case luckily, and I’m now back to my normal routine of Azithromycin three times weekly. I do hope your experience is as good as mine.

Like roscoe59 , the azithromycin I took has given me a number of years respite . If I have an infection other antibiotics work better nowadays.

Hi Jilly. I have taken them for 13yrs,initially 1 daily 250mg but as they affected my stomach reduced to 3x weekly. Big improvement! If I need other antibiotics I still take the azithromycin, as advised by consultant. Good luck! X

I have chronic asthma with fixed airways disease and Bronchiectasis. I've been taking 250g three times a week for a couple of years and the difference it has made is incredible! I have my life back!

I hope it makes as much difference to you and look forward to reading a future post telling us how much better you feel.

xx Moy

Hi jillygirl, I am so pleased they have prescribed Azithromycin for you. If they work for you as well as they have for me then you will be feeling better in no time. A word of warning many people have stomach issues during the first few weeks of taking Azith, please carry on with them, do not think they do not suit you. I took yoghurt every day and the shaky stomach feeling soon passed. I have never looked back since. It is now 14 years since I began taking them and I never thought I would feel so well again. Take care, Maximonkey.
