Always check the dates.

I have a nasty (green sputum) cough which is coming from the top of my chest not deep down in the lungs, I have not had and infection in more than 2 years since I started taking Azithromycin 3 times a week.

Tuesday last week I took in a sputum sample to the docs, stopped my Azithromycin and started my rescue pack, Clarithromycin and Prednisolone. Friday I phoned for results, they were not back, told to call Monday, yesterday I noticed that my Clarithromycin was out of date 03/13 so stopped them and gone back on the Azithromycin today. Still got the cough, feel so stupid that I did not check the date on the tablets, will make sure that does not happen again.

So everyone check those dates.

Try not to worry too much about expiry dates. Often they are perfectly safe to use, phone your pharmacist to clarify.

Third world countries rely on our expired stock.

The fact that expiration dates appear to be somewhat arbitrary may mean that consumers and pharmacies alike are throwing away perfectly good medicine. And this has important implications for drug shortages and especially health care costs.

Some last years after the date marked on them.

Please be careful, but remember not to panic if you use expired meds and check them out.

I was not trying to encourage or promote it btw, just saying not to be worried if you go past the sell by. Drugs are so expensive these days. And often they will still be effective.
