I found out by accident that I’ve got a lung nodule. I wasn’t told by any of my Dr’s it was the radiologist that mentioned it. I asked if they’d made a mistake as I’d already had a chest scan early, and thought they’d double booked me, but the radiographer said, your Dr must have told you, we need to check your lung nodule , I felt quite upset that none of my Gp’s had not mentioned anything to me, now I feel I’ll be a burden if I remind them that they’re over a year late for my check up scan and over two years late awaiting a heart scan . I know there are others worse than myself but at the same time I know I should call Dr about both these scans especially my lung scan. Sorry just needed to sound off a bit, sending gentle hugs to you all 💜😊

it’s awful to not be told as it’ll make you worry more. It happened to me as well with different things. I have nodules as well which appear to be shrinking but are being checked regularly. I think mine may have started after a bad cough I had for weeks in January 2024. But you must remind your gp of any outstanding scans you’re waiting on. And forget about others as your health is important to you. Ask for a gp appointment to go through your scan results so you can find out the size, how many etc and what the plan is for you. They may check regularly to make sure it’s shrinking, like mine. Try not to worry too much. Good luck x
Thank you for replying the last scan I got was 2023, they said nodule was ok but they’d scan me again, I should’ve been scanned last year, I’m gonna chase it up I think 🙂
Hi Rhiannon. You are not a burden at all. If we all compared ourselves to people who are worse off, we'd probably never get seen by a doctor. It is upsetting they never mentioned the nodules. The majority of lung nodules are not cancerous and are often caused by old infections, inflammation, or benign growths. Even so it needs to be monitored. Please do not hesitate to call your doctor. Take care. 😃
interesting discussion. I’ve got 2 nodules but there was no change between the two ct scans I’ve had so I’ve never been called back. Thanks for your post. I think you and I both need to chase this.
I don’t think you should ever consider yourself a burden. I have found I need to be much more proactive in seeking help; something that does not come naturally to me, but these days is very necessary. Please do talk to your doctors so they can sort out your scans and put your mind at rest.
I know you are correct, if I’m not proactive in my health no one else can do it for me, so it’s important I stay on top of things even if Drs don’t 😔I’m going to keep calling every morning to see if I can get a cancelled appt ? 🙂 thank you
Thank you for replying , I called Dr’s thos morning but it’ll be two weeks before I see a Dr unless it’s an emergency, I’ll call to see if there is any cancellations in the morning 🙂
It is the practice manager whom you should call to tell them that the practice have failed in their duty of care towards you and that that you are starting an official complaint. You are not a burden. I really don't know why people persuade themselves of that. Maybe to avoid necessary confrontation. These people are paid very well to do their job by us the tax payers and when they fail to do so we must call them to account.
You are probably right but the way things are now, I’d imagine there will be quite a few people lining up to see the practice manager, but been told there’s no GP appointments for 2 weeks unless it’s an emergency 😔
I don't know how these practice managers think they are earning their salary. At our practice we can speak to a GP the same day and see one within a couple of days. They are just too lazy to organise themselves.
Hi Rhiannon I have had 2 nodules for over 10 years. I'm not sure your GP is responsible for arranging a lung scan. Mine at 2 different hospitals have been the responsibility of my Rheumatologist. Anything caused or related to your Rheumatoid Arthritis is the responsibility of your Specialist. My GP had never been told of the nodules bizarre I know. But I would contact your Rheumatology nurse and ask if you need follow up scans. Mine have not grown at all in 10 years.
Thank you for replying, it’s our Dr’s who refer us to hospital for tests or X-rays, although these days it’s difficult to even see a Dr never mind what’s wrong with your health. It’s the same all over the country, sadly 😔
Hi Rhiannon , I would imagine they weren't concerned on the original scan but just wanted to do a scan on a follow up year or two later these scans can pick up lots of harmless legions and nodules but once we hear them words we are really frightened myself included in the past
If they thought it was anything sinister they would have referred you straight away
On the conclusion part of the written report
I agree may be your GP could have handled it much better and NEVER feel like your a burden.
Yes it would have been on the conclusion of the report with recommendations etc but get in touch with GP surgery or even better just book an appointment, you don't have to explain anything to the receptionist . See your GP face to face
you shouldn’t feel you are a burden anymore than you should feel you are a burden when you go to put gas in your car. There job is to serve you not the other way around.
Gentle hugs back. You will not be being a burden if you remind your doctors politely but firmly that these scans are overdue. After all they are paid to look after you. You will be more of a burden to the NHS if you get worse because any necessary treatments are delayed. It sounds as if the GPs at your surgery do not know what the other ones are doing.
