The important thing whn u take a mucolytic,is to do dedicated lung clearance sessions- look on aluk website at techniques

We all react differently to these drugs. The important thing to remember is that the drug thins the mucus and you must make sure that you expel it from your lungs. Otherwise it stays there and makes you breathless.

How do you expel it

You can find breathing tecniques and ways to get the mucus out on the ALUK website and also on you tube. A physiotherapist can show you howto do this. If you do not have a consultant ,who would have their own physio, many GP surgeries have visiting physiotherapists and you can request a session with them. You don’t say which lung condition you have. If you have bronchiectasis you really need to be under the care of a bronch specialist because GPs do not know enough about it. Find a specialist on the website of your nearest large teaching hospital and insist on a referral.

Once u get it up you will feel the benefit.its important to get it up,to reduce risk of it getting infected+ to improve breathing. Usually, unless yr ill and lungs are full, 15-20 mins ea time should should be enough.prob morning+ evening to start with.i do it upstairs and lie on bed for parts of it.let us know how u get on

Hi my consultant put me on nacys but I couldn’t take them and went back to carbocistiene. Sometimes it’s trial and error. Good luck
