I'm 77 and have suffered severe COPD for many years. Three weeks ago my doctor prescribed a patch called 'Butec 5mg' which you stick over your shoulder for one week and then stick another one over the other side and so on. At first I didnt think it was going to work but after a week I felt a big difference so thought I would share my experience with all you COPD people. I think you have to have COPD very severe before being subscribed this patch but worth a try. Take care and good luck x

SEVERE COPD
That sounds really good. I hope it would help other people.
Please can you tell me what it is suppose to do.
Low dose morphine, usually taken as a liquid know as Oramorph, can help with breathlessness. I'm allergic to morphine so am prescribed oxycodone. As Apollomycat has found, transdermal patches work well too.
This appears to be an alternative to Oramorph. Good to hear that it is helping you.
It sounds like a very low dose of morphine, several members use liquid Oromorph 5mg in the same position as you. If I've the energy I'll look up Butec online to check in case I'm wrong 🙃
I've had these transdermal patches for chronic pain. Unfortunately, I'm severely allergic to the adhesive, allergic to plasters and micropore too! And morphine so I have liquid Oxycodone . I find it helps.
I was on the patches for 18 mths after I had a series of pneumothoraxes lung drains and a broken hip in hospital in 2023. It did seem to lose effect over timr and as I didn't want to increase it to 10 I stopped using them in oct. I take 1000mg effervescent paracetamol now once or twice each day.
Thank you for sharing that info Apollpmc 👍
Did the gp prescribe it for copd or pain
Never heard of it . Will ask my Respiratory team ..thanks for the information and hope it is making your life easier. Take care xx.Sheila ❤️
Just googled it . I am on low dose of morphine 4 times which I think is similar.
hi, Is this for short term as I was told to stop using as it affected my breathing,(stopped my breathing) but I was on 30mcg per week, 5mcg might be ok I have emphysema so I would just be cautious and check with your respiratory team . Hope it works for you. Good luck. Kevin
That sounds brilliant. I have severe COPD so will ask about that, thanks for sharing. xxx
