Having read all the side effects if cipro, l am questioning whether l should take it. Colonised with pseudomonas and not wanting to return to hospital for ivs yet l decided to try cipro as only oral med available. Wondering how others coped on this drug. Would love to hear your thoughts. Regards Maureen.

Ciprofloxacin side effects.
Good morning to you, my husband Pete does well on Ciprofloxacin but some suffer with tendon problems. It is by and large a good antibiotic so give it a try. Good luck. Xxxx
I have been taking it when needed since 1986. It doesn't always fo the job now so we give it 7 days then resort to IV if I am no better. I get 1-2 exacerbations each year. I don't like the dry sore mouth that I get. Some get tendon problems but not me so far. I guess it's a case of balancing off the annoying side effects with not treating the infection or the inconvenience of I V in hospital or at home if you can get it.
As with any meditation they have to list the POSSIBLE side effects. It doesn’t necessarily mean you will have any issues with them.
Why not give it a go ? If it doesn’t suit you can always stop taking it.
when i took it within a week i had achilles heel and sciatica, when i told my doc she said impossible, i told her to google it, it shows its possible in the elderly .
don’t do it this drug has ruined my life and hundreds of thousands others just 3 pills have put people in wheelchairs.

I always get horrible acid reflux with cipro so now take a PPI esomeprazole for the duration along with Peptac when needed. (Have to allow 2 hour gap before and after taking the cipro . )
Plus Don’t take the cipro on an empty stomach / avoid sugary foods/ take a probiotic..
Better than having to go into hospital for IV’s
Good luck
I can no longer take it (eventually caused tendinitis) but I jolly well wish I could! I’m colonised with pseudomonas too and every time I get a flare-up I need IV antibiotics, which is 10 x more troublesome than popping a pill. Also it involves going into hospital for at least a few days, and being exposed to other horrible bugs. So I’d take the cipro and just be aware of the potential for tendon problems, stop if you get any pain or stiffness
it’s a bit of a lottery. I used it in 3 month doses practically every year for 15 years and never had a problem, but tendinitis is a well-known side effect with others. Unfortunately, as with any drug, you can’t predict the side effects on yourself until you’ve actually tried it!
Never had that one but take it see how you get on with it you could be OK with it
I was ok on it
Hi Liberty43, I am allergic to ciprofloxacin so I would not be prescribed them, however, if you are not allergic they are a very good antibiotic. Hope you feel well soon. Merry Christmas, Maximon key
Hi Liberty 43,
I have been taking Ciprofloxacin on and off for the last 14 years and do not have any problems. All medications have lists of side possible effects. Good Luck x
Hi Liberty,
I also have Pseudomonas and MAC. I took Cipro the first time for 10 days along with inhaled Tobramycin and it worked beautifully. My second go at it was a year later and I only took half of the dosage (pharmacy screw-up) for 7 days. I stopped after the 7th day when I discovered I had the wrong dosage. Anyway, I wound up with tendonitis in my elbow and foot. Both times I was extremely careful not to put any stress on my tendons/muscles as I was aware of this side effect. I used to walk about 5 miles a day and have completely stopped walking as my one foot still hurts after 3 months off of the drug. Next stop is the podiatrist to see what I can do. Be careful...no excercising while on it. I still got tendinitis even though I was extremely careful of movement. I'm grateful that it was only tendinitis and not rupture. I will not take it going forwqrd. Good luck to you whatever you decide.
