I'm so sorry you've lost your best friend 😪 because that's what they are. We lost Alfie (profile pic) 2022. We battled for a week to save him, but unfortunately we had to make that horrible decision. There are sites where you can get a memorial frame for their picture with your own words. Helped me a little. I wish you the utmost best and good wishes at this terrible time. 😒

That's the thing with pets they become part of the family.

Last night when I was out in the village at the carol concert there were families there with their dogs as they consider the dog as a family member!

My heart goes out to you. It’s so sad and hard losing your fur baby and best friend especially your first. I wish they lived longer lives. I’ve lost my faithful fur babies in the past and it’s heartbreaking but it does get easier, I still have pictures of them in my home and remembrance plaques in the garden. Time is a great healer.

Take care

Oh so sorry. I lost one of my pets around a Christmas and somehow that time of year just made it even harder to bear. I am sure your Molly would have known how much she was loved and cared for. Pets are such a joy but then our pain hits us hard even though we have to do the right thing and help them out of illness. Molly will forever be in your heart and you must take time to grieve and recover. Different for everyone. By kind to yourself and take care. xx

OSHA you poor love. I know your pain. I am so so very sorry to hear you’ve lost your dear dog. I’ve had dogs for the last 60 years and it doesn’t get any easier. Bless their hearts they don’t say a word but the house is so quiet when they’ve gone. Our next dog never replaced the one that we’d lost but we call it ‘passing the baton’. Another little dog to love and to love us and guard their house and love their garden. If you are thinking of getting another one one dsy then sooner rather than later can help with your pain and loss. But we’re all different and you must do what you can and what u must to get through these painful times. We all understand and here for you 24/7. Take care. 🦊x

Dear Osha I send my sincerest condolences on the loss of your dog. Dogs are hugely special in our lives with their gift of unconditional love and affection, and it goes without saying that when we give and receive such love it enriches our life no end. So at their parting, the price we pay for love is grief. But slowly grief heals and the legacy they left of loving, if we carry it forward both loving ourselves and others wisely helps the recovery .

I am so sorry Osha. It is incredibly painful to lose our pets, they are family! I still miss my dog Dillon who died 3 years ago, he was 21! What hurts and I regret most is the fact that I wasn't there for him at the end as I was in hospital. Hopefully you were able to be there for Molly. Big hugs x

When our black and white cat got put to sleep my father took him to the vets and dumped him there leaving him to be put to sleep on his own!

PaperQueen profile image

I know, I don't think I've ever heard of one living that long before. I can't really take any credit as I only had him during his later years. He belonged to a friend of mine who used to bring him to work and he used to sit under my desk most of the day as he got older, so I'd known him most of his life. When my friend was no longer able to keep him I was pleased to be able to offer him a home in our retirements. He was a Jack Russell/Border Terrier cross and the most amazing character. Still miss him.

So very sorry to hear that you have had to say goodbye to Alfie. We had to make that decision for our best boy, Frasier, our 16 yr old Irish Red & White Setter. It’s hard but time does heal. We now share our daughter’s Norfolk Terrier as we are at an age where it would unfairly to have another dog. We make ourselves go out for short walks, weather permitting. Rest assured that you’ve given Alfie a good life and he is now running free in doggy heaven. Best wishes fir Christmas and the New Year.

Losing a dog is akin to losing a family member; it's an experience that is gut-wrenching and often leaves a void that feels impossible to fill. For many of us, our canine companions are more than just pets; they are loyal friends, confidants, and sometimes, our greatest sources of joy. The loss of a dog, whether it’s due to old age, illness, or unforeseen circumstances, can bring forth an overwhelming wave of grief that is both profound and deeply personal.

I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through this. I had to pts my little ginger girl Mollie cat in 2022 I was so distraught during the procedure as I have never had to pts a little family pet. It’s soul destroying and she had a lung condition and the steroids stopped working. So so sorry 🌈💔💕

Turnipgirl profile image
Turnipgirl in reply topepparuby1

We were all very upset when we heard that Mollie had died as well even though we had an idea it was soon so it wasn't a surprise but still it was a shock though!

Years ago my father had our black and white cat put to sleep and just dumped him at the vets and left him there on his own which I think was cruel as he reckoned the cats life was a nuisance!

How's Pepparuby the black panther getting on and Hector the orange and white and the other set of twins?

Baby is great and sends her regards!

pepparuby1 profile image
pepparuby1 in reply toTurnipgirl

Oh how awful!! Kitties are good and Hector and Zelda play fight 😂. Glad Baby is well and looking for to Xmas

Turnipgirl profile image
Turnipgirl in reply topepparuby1

Are your kitties getting presents then as Baby is as usual!

That was a right loss to the family when Mollie died the same week I lost that job at the pharmacy but now I look back and feel it was a blessing in disguise but at the time it felt like the world had ended!

With that pharmacy I wasn't happy there so it was a blessing in disguise when they finished me all because my face didn't fit there!

That really was cruel when my father dumped our black and white cat at the vets and left it alone with the vet to be put to sleep!

Another incident was when I was 14 and my father went through my bedroom to find if I had anything inappropriate in there such as condoms or contraceptive pills which was a horrible experience to go through!

My friends said how something like that is a woman's job!

Yes it's like any loss at 1st. It's when you wake up. Or when you have come home from going out. It also the company for some people as well. It does get easier with time and we just adjust to the loss. A lot of people eventually get a replacement companion. But I see even dog rescues are talking silly amounts. Take care. Brian
