MY BELOVED SMOKEY

Just wondered if many of you with copd are the proud owners of a parrot and if the dust from their feathers affect you

I think 2greys has - (or possibly had) two African greys, hence his name. I'm sure he'll reply when he reads your post. Is that pineapple that Smokeys eating? Lovely bird!

I know exactly what you mean lol. My Smokey is my third child, I just miss him so much I hurt.

Oh thank you. It's an apple. Yes I have had contact with two greys but wondered if anybody else had any ideas as I have had to foster Smokey out and have holidays with him without my husband.

all furry, hairy, feathery and I have no doubt scaly and shell type pets are definitely not my little buddies. There again I'm not to good with human beings either, once one of my work colleagues who was spending the day in the office I worked in had to pop home and re-shower because I had a reaction to the soap she had used that morning.

Hey ho, hay fever season is well on it's way so any thing indoors and outdoors gets near me and I'm stuffed.

I got 2 greys up stairs in the back room as my son feeds them and no they do not afect me at all no the wife

Thank you for your reply David but my grey has spent 20 years living with us so too late to put him in a room on his own now.

Ive been told to get rid but the dust from feathers has never affected me I have 2 ringnecks and a parakeet and will not get rid of them or move them to another room

Oh you are very lucky as mine makes my husbands breathing a lot worse

I used to keep macaws Grey's Amazon's​ and the smaller green cheek conures​ I had to give up after being in hospital for the third time it is not just the feather dust but dust from there poop when it dries that affects people with copd I had a powered dust mask but it still got me the worst time was when we were hand rearing chicks for the pet market

Oh I do feel for you as they are our babies. People who have never owned a parrot just wouldn't understand.

Nail on the head there. They are incredible creatures and make wonderful companions. I could not let them go just anywhere. Sharon and I often refer to them as "the kids" and play along with them.

No nor would I, he is with a lovely couple who have parrots of their own. I can see him whenever I want and also take him on little breaks just me and him. They also send me lots of photos and videos of him. I am truly lucky to have found them as I like you wouldn't let my baby go just anywhere.

While I still had my most beloved Amazon ,( he died last year ), to keep the dust down

I tried to damp dust every day....it never bothered me at all . He was happy to tell me when he wanted a shower bath and a blow dry.I have many​ delightful photographs of this

charming character who ruled this house for over thirty years.

PS.... All the experts tell you how bad birds are for you ....but these experts are not experts in everything. The loss of mine was like the loss of a child....

Oh I am so so sorry for your loss, 30 years is a long time. Even though I still spend time with my Smokey it's been like having to foster a child out. I miss him so much, I had him 20 years from a hand reared baby.
