Hi everyone...hope you're all doing ok Hopefully someone can advise me .... Here's the problem....I had heart issues back in April but a recent scan showed improved and I'm now on Entresto,Nebivolol2.5 ...and statin. I also have diverticulitis and last week my stomach started acting up ...with pain radiating to my back. Went to doc yesterday...she didn't examine me just listened with stethoscope and checked oxygen.... prescribed Clarithomycin (sp?????) And Metronidazole along with Famotidine.. Today I feel really jittery and breathless and a rather unpleasant taste in my mouth. Can anyone tell me if it's a reaction to all the meds? I'd appreciate any thoughts...have tried the surgery ...all appointments gone even telephone call back... pharmacist has already left! Thanks in advance folks
Antibiotic reaction : Hi everyone... - Lung Conditions C...
Antibiotic reaction
Clarithromycin is the only one I can take without getting any reactions, but after taking it for 14 days my mouth didn't feel like my own and the taste was like nothing I could describe and as for stomach and bowel movements. Trapped wind and constipation. Besides that it's a good antibiotic 😉. My doctor did advise eating live yoghurt to maintain my good gut bacteria. I must admit it would have been better if he had mentioned this before I started taking it and not after. Good luck chook 😉
It could be. Metronidazole is a really horrible antibiotic and rarely used now. I don't know about fanotidine but clarithromycin can also be difficult to tolerate Sounds as if somebody has thrown a bag of hammers to crack a nut.
is the helpline here still open .
Or is it shut until Monday .
Can you ask advice from another pharmacist or ring 111
clarithromycin definitely leaves you with a funny taste in your mouth. I’ve had this antibiotic many times.
metronizadol kills me. It is an horrible antibiotic but very effective. Taste in mouth and p sun in stomach gets worse every day of the course. Hope you feel better soon x
Make sure you take them with food, it helps. Do get some live yogurt too (ie Yeo Valley) because that really helps too.
I'm on Clarithromycin too at the moment for a chest infection that has gone on for over a month. It always gives me a horrid taste in my mouth but it's worth it because it seems to be working whereas the Doxycycline did nothing I've no knowledge of the other 2 drugs you are taking. Have you read to blurb that comes with the drugs? Your symptoms might be listed there as side effects and if they are serious it will say to contact your GP. Maybe ring 111 if you are in the UK and can't get hold of your GP? Best of luck x
Thank you...reading the information sheets for the tablets would scare the living daylights out of you!!! This forum is just wonderful ...thanks to everyone for the replies...much appreciated!
