I have Bronchiectasis and of course cough, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. One of my "types" of cough starts with a sharp tickle in my throat and I know I am in for a long bout of coughing when I feel it. I have tried everything, water, cough drops, honey, lemon, ginger, every herb under the sun and more.
I know that there are times when I need to cough to clear my chest. However, there are times when I don't want to cough, e.g., in the middle of the night when I am asleep, when I am out to dinner, when on a bus, etc., and I have solved the problem. I now use sore throat tablets that anaesthetise my throat, Chloralieve, boom boom, tickle killed stone dead within 5 minutes. what a relief. Sleep resumed, disapproving stares stop and sanity restored.
Hope this helps someone.

Chlorolieve is sold in Boots but you have to take the empty packet to the counter to get the lozenges, they are about £5 and generally on the bottom shelf. Please make sure they are compatible with your medications.
I had the same problem during Covid, which was really embarrassing as everyone gave me dirty looks. I used Jakemans sore throat lozenges and they worked the same - word of warning though - when I next got to a dentist I needed 4 fillings. I don’t eat a lot of sweet stuff so can only put it down to that, as I haven’t had fillings for years. If you do choose lozenges make sure you are vigilant with your teeth.
Thank you for sharing this. I too get the tickle, then the continuous cough which inevitably leads to sneezing for me. I will definitely be trying these. Thanks again.
You are not alone I use throat pastils to help relieve cough when excessive. I was very ill yesterday with cough , pain in ribs , and a strange pain in my hand on the little finger side . I put it down to having to walk as my ambulance did not turn up so I had to walk to a taxi rank at the hospital following a CT scan for radiotheraphy. My cancer record does not look good right now. fortunately the other health issues are fine.
I am due to start radiotherapy today and I am concerned incase the cough starts while the beams are working , but thats just human or sods law. I have asked transport for wheelchair so less strain on the lungs till my radiotherapy is over. THroat pastils in my pillbag as a precaution. I get some heavy spasms which the pastils don't help but we can't do anything about our illness symptoms just try to find relief. Thanks for your postxx
