Morning everyone, just wondered if anyone has had kidney stones. I have been experiencing pain in my left groin and lower back and side for a few weeks. It wakes me up at night and l get it intermittently through the day. The doctor thinks it maybe Arthritis and l am getting a xray on Thursday. What makes me think it maybe kidney stones is the fact l have had numerous urine infections in the last few years. If it is kidney stones would they show up on a xray?

Hi Michael. When I and my son have had kidney stones, we have had sudden urgent pain. Son was literally just walking across the kitchen and dropped to the floor. He isn't a wimp with pain either. Mine was worse than childbirth, as no break between contractions, just awful pain that had me rolling in agony. Kidney stones don't usually cause an issue unless they are trying to pass. We were both "lucky" in that we passed ours without surgery. From scans, we both have some floating around in there, but they don't give trouble.

I occasionally have gravel in my kidney smaller version to kidney stones. Very very painful gp sent me for tests to confirm gravel I had to wait for them to pass which took time. I found hot baths helped and hot water bottle and a very patient hubby who i kept up at nights. Eventually mine did oaks.

Hi I think it may be hip damage ie arthritis as pain can be severe in these areas.hopefully you will be diagnosed soon.

Hi Michael, my kidney stones showed up on Xray. The pain had me on the floor and I agree with Notmanyspots, worse pain than childbirth. The first time I had them, the urologist tried to snag them while I was under anesthesia. He was successful in moving them from the ureter and eventually I passed them with some difficulty. The second time I had them, I had a lithotripsy where the stones are broken up with shock waves and then easy to pass.
