Hi everyone thanks so much for you kind words & well wishes. We made it home totally whacked. I considered going straight to A & E but both hubby & daughter said no go home & rest which I did. This morning hubby still said not to go to A & E as it would be busy 🤷🏻♀️it’s always busy! He suggested ringing 111 who suggested I call my GP within the hour. I rang & then got a call back from the senior partner who started with “ right so you’re struggling to keep food down?” 🫤 no. Anyway he made me an appointment for 4.30. I guess you experienced folk know what’s coming next. I saw a nice hospital dr I think she was. She was worried as my temp was 38.6. She kept saying oh you’re very hot I’m worried about that. Then Sats were 94 she even more concerned. She said she thought it was Pneumonia like last time & I needed IV antibiotics. I already suspected this. However I need blood tests & X Ray first & they were now closed. I told her I would finish my Doxycycline tomorrow & so She sent a prescription for Amoxicillin to Boots electronically. Hubby went to Boots but no prescription so had to go back to the surgery as you can’t call our surgery. Calls go to a call centre which is actually people working from home. They have no access to our records. Apparently the prescription is waiting for a practice GP to sign it. Oh & she said she wasn’t in tomorrow to watch out for the results so I said will someone else call me then? She said no you will have to call the surgery again tomorrow to get an appointment for someone to call you back !!
Now surely if she thinks it’s Pneumonia again & I need IV antibiotics why can’t I access the hospital. I asked her if I should go to A & E she said it’s a 14 hour wait today 🤷🏻♀️. So traipsing to hospital in the morning the usual battle with parking then several hours wait for bloods. This could do easily have been avoided. Agh.

I hate to say this but if you feel you have pneumonia and ought to be in hospital, perhaps you should go to A&E now? You really don’t sound well & your temp is rather high
I wish I had gone this morning. It’s been a right carry on with GP. But I agree with you totally but I’m not well enough to sit for 14 hours. I have to go first thins for x Ray & bloods but may go to A & E first. Just another day without treatment. I’m immunosuppressed on Biologics so this happens unfortunately. Surely if you need to be in hospital your GP can arrange it.
Maybe you should call 999. I’m a bit worried about you to be honest, especially if you’re immunosuppressed (snap!) because obviously your ability to fight pneumonia is much reduced. I can’t believe you’d have to wait long once someone listens to your chest
Thank you for your concern it’s appreciated. No one in A & E listened to my chest!! Another saga. I’m going to write a new post as I’m lost for words. You won’t believe it. I’m home now though resting.
I would have thought the Gp would have called an ambulance earlier or told you to go straight to A and E with a temperature that high and pneumonia. I have seen high temperatures in patients and they need urgent iv paracetamol and antibiotics. Please check your temperature now , if it’s high please consider calling 111.
Thanks. I have no idea why the GP couldn’t arrange admission. That’s what I expected. I doubt I’m ever ringing 111 again after this saga it’s them who told me to go the the GP. I’m writing a new post.
OMG how absolutely awful for you - I also believe that you should be in hospital now . I'm concerned that Amoxicillin isn't a good enough antibiotic for pneumonia and sincerely hope the 'script was for 14 days. Not good enough when IV abs have been suggested If family won't take you get a cab straight to A&E,
Actually amoxicillin is the preferred antibiotic for streptococcal pneumonia, which is the mildest form, so I can see why the gp prescribed it. But I’m going by how ill you feel and your immune deficiency. It does sound as though you should be in hospital x
I have had to go to A&E several times for chest infections/pneumonia and have always been fast tracked when I got there. Like you I’m immune suppressed the result of biologics Your Doxy has probably been keeping you just ticking over. Keep an eye on your temperature- if it goes up any higher then go to hospital. Beware if you’re taking paracetamol that will bring your temperature down but will mask any underlying problems. I hope you get sorted and feel better soon.
Life didnt used to be like this . Nhs was underfunded for many years and now we are pay ing the price . The whole organisation is in a mess . I hope you get what you need .
I was in great pain a few months after an eme rgency abdominal op so phoned for ambulance myself. I live alone and pain got worse so phoned about 2.00 Am and an ambulance appeared within half an hour and i was whisked straight in. Put on drip and catheter and Then they made me wait for a week for the blockage to clear itself . Adhesions apparently and i didnt know about that , nor was I warned that it could happen . Waiting was better than another op but i was in single room alone w ithout any visitors and while not informed ,this was better than another op . That was 2 years ago .andtimes are obviously worse now but I cannot understand why you cannot get what you need from the surgery. Now it will be worse with time passing.If you can get to A&E I would do that . Go prepared to wait .Give them all the info about immunosuppresion and temperature, and need for antibiotics when you arrive and check in. Prime your husband do the talking and tell them all while you collapse at his side !.
