A nurse and Physiotherapist called from the virtual ward yesterday to assess me.I am being supplied with a hospital back rest for my bed,a stool for my bathroom, a cover for my mattress used in hospitals to prevent bed sores.
Awaiting a call from Pharmacist to review medication and the Dietician as I've lost over a stone.
The virtual ward are a team that gives you the same treatment as being in hospital but in the comfort of your own own. It consists of a Doctor, nurse,Physiotherapist, dietitian, Pharmacist, other health care professionals and volunteers. They regularly meet and discuss patients so as to provide a plan. Also given tel no to phone anytime between 9am to 5pm Mon to Fri.. fingers crossed I'll get back on my feet and my life back.
I still have my Respiratory team at hand also.
I'll keep you updated x lots of love xx.Sheila ❤️

You certainly seem to be well cared for Sheila and l like the sound of the virtual team. What a good idea. The equipment that’s been provided should help hopefully.
I just want to wish you well and hope you’re back on your feet again very soon.
Hi, hopefully you will be back on your feet in no time. Sounds like you have a great team behind you which to me is half the battle 🤔. Good luck with everything chook. 😉
it’s good news that you have the virtual ward. When I came out of hospital I was given one of those stools for my bathroom. It was so good that I asked for one for my kitchen table. They happily gave me one and being higher up certainly helps my breathing when eating. I have had many visits from the dieticians who have tried all of their cardboard soups, chemical juices and sickly milk shakes on me. If it helps, the only one which tastes vaguely like a milkshake and which I am willing to take to stop them nagging is the Aymes complete chocolate milkshake in a bottle. You can also get it in sachets.
It’great that you are being looked after. I hope that everything helps you and makes you feel more secure.
Do keep us up to date. Sending you masses of love.XX
I was prescribed Fortisip as apparently one of the things the blood tests showed was malnutrition. The annoying thing was that I was on restricted fluids and the stuff had to included as liquid (125 mil) when in my opinion it should have been food.
I also tried all the milk shakes soups etc. to thick and gloopy. I like the Forti juice straight from the fridge. I have 60 a month ASSORTED flavors of which there are many. far different from the milk shakes.
Wow, that’s such a good treatment plan, very helpful also. My best wishes that it’s as good as sounds, and works wonders, also the equipment that’s been supplied. Jean x
Hi Jean, Yes sounds great but does it work. It's OK to supply me with these aids but I need help to get me walking and able to leave the houseI'll keep you informed thanks have a nice day xx.Sheila
Hello Sheila. I have heard great things about the "virtual" wards, and it sounds as though they're right! It would seem that they have all aspects covered, which is always the difficulty when you're not in hospital. When I was in hospital last year they mentioned a virtual ward for me but I was deemed too unwell. Silly in my opinion as I'm sure I'd have got better far quicker at home!
Wishing you well Sheila, hope you're up and about soon, keep your positivity 💐💐 xx
Yes I used to be so Positive but these past few months unfortunately I've gone downhill. I wake up in the morning and feel I can't face another day indoors. I'm praying I'll get the help I need .take care xx.Sheila
The weight loss is difficult.i don’t like milkshakes,s am a Problem to the dietician.
They don’t seem to understand that the weight loss (5 stone in 5 years)
Is a side effect from my interstitial lung disease and fibrosis.
The most encouraging conversation I’ve had is the one with the ILDconsultant .he touched briefly on weight loss and then we moved.Im a lot more relaxed about eating now.
For breakfast I had cereal, followed by hula hoops.
I know that it’s not a recommended diet, but find it easier to eat what I fancy.
Have they offered you a pressure relief cushion.
Mine has been a godsend.
I hope you feel a bit better soon, it’s good that your at home x
Yes they are giving me a pressure cushion also. I find the protein drinks too thick and sickly. I am eating now and my weight is stable ,but can't seem to put the weight back on I lost when my appetite went .I have muscle weakness caused by being bedridden.
Praying I'll be back to my old self again as everyday is a struggle and causing me anxiety and depression.
hi garshe , I have been thinking of you wondering how you were .
Glad you are getting help , a good team effort .
I got upset and annoyed about my health care the other week , so breathless and panic attacks.
But saw another consultant ,,,,not about my lungs , but my bones .
Blood test showed Vit D deficiency so he prescribed medication for 6 weeks, then maintenance ….i noticed vit D and breathlessness link . I did Google !
Yes please keep me informed. I am waiting the result of an echocardiogramme and ECG as maybe this is adding to my breathless. I've been waiting since last October for this, the time I went ill. This could be the answer
Sounds perfect Sheila and lovely of you to let everyone know how you're doing. A stone is a lot to lose so hoping the support helps you to gain more strength. Thinking of you xxx
Thanks Bernardine,a long way to go but I'm determined , and stopped laying in bed every day as that has caused all the problems. It's hard work moving around and the stairs is a nightmare but slowly slowly I'll get there in the end take care lots of love xx.Sheila xx
I do to, as plenty calling but so far only giving me aids. I prefer help to get me walking and able to leave the house. I don't need to be made more comfortable at home I need to get out. Its been almost 5months housebound and has driven me crazy . Take care xx.Sheila
it’s good to hear they can accommodate your needs while you can stay in your home, I know I would much prefer that. I sure hope you recover to your previous level. Good luck.
That's exactly what I'm aiming for too. Just to be able to walk to my car and go for a run would be fantastic. Fingers crossed . Thank you lots of love xx.Sheila ❤️
🤞🤞Even the simple things are appreciated more once you couldn’t do them but regain the ability to do them, so hope and pray you get there. It may be slow but keeping pushing it will be worth it as you know.🙏🙏
Yes plenty around me but not giving me what I really need. Plenty of aides to make life easier but I need to be walking again and able to go out and about .I'm praying one day I'll get a miracle 🙏 xx.Sheila
I’ve not heard of a virtual ward, Sheila. What a brilliant idea! I’m glad you’re getting their support and hope that, with their help and the coming of Spring, you’ll start feeling better x
I'm praying 🙏 I will also. To be able to go out for a run in the car would be amazing. It's the little things in life I miss. My trips to M&S shopping and walking slowly around the shops and chatting to people. I've not dressed for months, lived in PJ's.This week may change , I'm going to try as need my hairdresser to come to my house to give me highlights. Now that's a goal isnt it. Lots of ❤️ xx.Sheila
Thank you ill keep you informed. They have an MDT meeting every Tuesday and decide the way forward for each patient. I hope they come up with a plan for me. Take care lots of love ❤️ xx.Sheila
That's my wish also. As long as I can get out to the shops or sit on a bench on the sea front (when it's warmer) I'll be happy. Praying this will happen soon as 5minths housebound is causing me anxiety and depression. Take care sending hugs xxSheila
I have doubted this so much lately but trying to get my Positivity back again. Being negative doesn't help but not going out and bedbound doesn't help.. I'm really trying to get back walking now. Going downstairs once a day ,problem getting back up, but I get there in the end.
I'll keep you informed. Thanks for your reply lots of ❤️ xx.Sheila
Hi Sheila , you sound a bit happier now. Hospitals also have virtual clinics now . Hope your equipment works for you. Hope the backrest works I can recall one I had years ago from social services that used to collapse , they don't issue them anymore. Take things slowly at home , keep warm and I hope you will be out of bed in your best bib and tucker soon. xxx
@LThe Virtusl ward is to free up hospital beds. You get a Doctor, nurse ,Physiotherapist, Pharmacist, have blood taken at home. All to make it easier and not have to go to surgeries. My Respiratory team are also calling so praying they will get me off this oxygen..xx.Sheila
Yes 5 months housebound not good . I need to go out as driving me crazy. My panic attacks are worse and my breathless even with oxygen.Fingers crossed as I'm really trying to walk to excercise my muscles as they are weak
You take care as well love. It really is a vicious circle sometimes with health and panic attacks. Possibly try chair exercises. Sit to stand and build up gradually. Even if you go for a drive out in the car for fresh air you will feel a lot better. Take care. Brian
I had the virtual ward last year when I came out of hospital' They brought me a thermometer, oxymeter and blood pressure machine plus a programmed phone and I could take my own obs and forward them every day' I had access to a rapid response team until they decideded I was well enough to be discharged. However after my latest and longest stay in RLI I now have the appropriate agencies coming to my home as I live in an upstairs property. It's good to hear from you again.
I already have. Blood pressure machine Oximeter and nebuliser..I dont really want the back rest may have to return it..I have got out of bed today, dressed, make up on and hair done. Downstairs. I have a team of cleaners here 5 in all doing a deep clean
My house is not dirty just needed top of cupboards and wardrobes.. I have 2 big Bay windows in front of house. So need inside cleaned as too difficult for me to climb up.
Tiles in bathroom and en suite to be cleaned and all skirten boards etc. A lovely Spring clean.
I'm then having one cleaner every week for 2hrs . Il be a lady of leisure lol
That is fabulous news, Sheila! A spring clean is indeed lovely. Since joining this forum I have been so admiring of your positive attitude, and also very envious of your wonderful clothes! Helen xx
Well the cleaning team made more of a mess. My beautiful granite floor with sparkle in my kitchen all smeared also all wood floors. 3 broken Venetian blinds ,now fixed thank goodness .smears on mirrors and few other things. Cost £325 ridiculous. Im a perfectionist and my daughter went over all the floors with my mop which only uses water. Their products left the floor sticky. Never again .we've sorted it now and I was given £40 refund. Not good enough but will never use again xx.Sheila 😱
Goodness me, how very disappointing for you- causing more issues that you didn’t need at a difficult time.
I have an occasional cleaner who came to me via social prescribing and she is brilliant. Very flexible and caring. If you need a cleaner again perhaps you could approach social prescribing and ask if they can recommend someone for you ?
I hope so to ,Chris im eating so many cream cakes ill be diabetic. Fingers crossed need to put at least a stone back on as only 7st 2lb need to be 8st at least .xxSheila
I also was in the care of a home respiratory team for 5 years whilst living in the West Midlands. They were brilliant most of them were able to write prescriptions home Iv Antibiotics. They had weekly meetings with the Consultants you were under. I was advised that I benefit with help at a local Hospice for weekly treatments they arranged all of that for me. Like you I was also under the care of the hospital respiratory team. get well soon.
I have always looked up to you as you have such a positive attitude!! I wish you well and hope you are back up on your feet in no time . So glad you have a wonderful team of professionals looking after you.🪻🌷💕
Sorry to hear you’re so unwell. The virtual ward sounds like a good idea I hope it helps you regain some independence. It’s really tough being stuck in 4 walls & I can empathise with that since foot surgery on both feet 14months ago hasn’t gone well. It’s awful loosing strength & independence. So sending hugs & hope the virtual ward is a game changer 🤞
Hello Sheila, sorry to hear you are going through a difficult time health wise but it’s good you’re getting support from our amazing NHS. I hope your husband is ok. I really hope you recover soon and put a bit of the weight back on. The summer is coming so maybe you can get outside to get a few rays. It would be nice to see you in one of your beautifully stylish and well coordinated outfits again! Best wishes, Jan
