I have never been affected so bad by cold weather in my life! I have had to take my blue inhaler over 20 times in the past few days and I normally never need it? I have my asthma review soon so I will be telling my asthma nurse everything. I get so out of breathe aswell especially walking up stairs and just sneezing makes me wheezy. Has anybody else been affected like this? Can't wait for the weather to get better I'm having to go outside with a face mask and my scarf round my mouth π³ which is really hard for me x

This weather is so bad for my breathing π
Cold air is not good but equally i find breathing also a problem in hot weather. There are lots of things that affect breathing and we are all different. Do talk to the nurses here and see how they can help you .
Hi Yumz - You are using way too much of your blue inhaler - please do call your GP and ask their opinion. Normally if you were using that amount your condition would not be considered properly controlled and you would be prescribed what is known as a preventer inhaler. The blue one (salbutomal) is a reliever one only, not intended for continual use.
Probably best to get in touch with your GP/asthma nurse now, rather than leaving it til your appointment with the asthma nurse. Or as Jaybird suggests, call the forum helpline.
I sympathise. I have never found it so hard to breathe outside as I do this year. My chest tightens and I feel as if I can't get enough air into my lungs. Luckily our ,house is reasonably warm, especially by the fire, but I do feel trapped. Apart from a scarf and a mask, I'm stumped for ideas to make going outdoors easier. I hope someone will come up with some ideas. xxx
I have been very wheezy this year and my blue inhaler isnt helping. I did wonder if for me its because I have been sat around the house not doing much due to having a bad hip then replacement so have become unfit. The weather has been horrid for a while and some days just not fit to go out. Perhaps phone the helpline on 0300 222 5800 and see if they can advise x
The famous poet Dante Alighieri wrote in the "divine Comedy":Having a companion in the pain makes the pain less painful...e3nough said.
Sme for me, from studies the optimal temperature il between 19 and 24 degrees Centigrade.. the higer or lower makes things worse.
be strong and patient , best wishes

It really affects your breathing when it's cold. I have used mine too much lately and asked for another just incase it runs out, my sister is the same and there are so many different viruses and infections going around it makes you want to just hibernate. Your not on your own there chook π
Hi Yumz,
If you find yourself reaching out for the blue inhaler several times everyday, you are undermedicated. Either temporarily ( due to a simple viral cold gone down) or more long term. Either way you need to see a doctor, and get your medication updated.
For me, cold foggy weather is awful, my airways are hyperreactive, I already start coughing when I eat ice cream or a cold yoghurt from the fridge.
Good luck
hope you managed to get some professional advice β¦..and your breathing difficulties are easing .
Best wishes .
Hi Yumz,
Am with you on every level in the cold weather ( as it was last week in UK ) .
I have ACOS - Asthma COPD Overlap Syndrome. I completely disabled by anything below 0 Centigrade.
At home though it is reasonably warm I really struggle. Outside any walking is like βclimbing Everestβ. I do need to increase my Salbutamol use to help to manage breathlessness. I just have get through and wait for warmer times.
So pleased to be more comfortable this week- in fact it feels almost tropical ! Hehe. I can pick up daily routines again with much more ease.
Look after yourself wonβt you?
Go well.
Pauline
This cold weather is affecting alot off peaple I've heard a few peaple say the cold is affecting there breathing when walking and they don't have respertory problems so it goes to show how cold it is
I've really struggled with the weather this winter, too. Cold, not so much, but the weeks and weeks of rain have had a very bad effect. I've started to keep an eye on the levels of humidity, and we've had very high humidity for months now (south west) One day a couple of weeks ago it was 100% !!! Often it's been in the high 90s. I note that when it's over 80% my daily dog walk is harder to do. A family member is a very highly qualified industrial health and safety officer, and high humidity is considered a very undesirable work environment and needs mitigating. Strangely, my COPD assessment nurse was very surprised when I told her that humidity affects my breathing!
