Several months ago our general bin collections were cut right back and I am struggling regards waste disposal. Tissues and kitchen roll . But also Dettol cleaning wipes etc. I have a low immune system as well as my lung condition. I use a lot everyday. Any suggestions would be welcome

Hello Dottie 11. It can be a problem can't it? I, personally flush tissues (don't like them hanging around!). I don't use kitchen roll or wipes, but use cotton cloths which I change every day and they get washed in the machine whenever I next do a suitable wash. I try not to use sprays but have an antibacterial one in the cupboard which I use if there's something/one iffy about 😆😆 Have lovely day 😃xx

Apparently you should never flush tissues as they can cause drain blockages. The paper is different to toilet paper and doesn't break up the same when wet.

Oh ok, I didn't know that! Thank you for pointing it out! I don't actually use tissues, the humble loo roll does for me!! I occasionally use the moist toilet wipes, never ever flush them even though they say you can! xx

Tissues down the toilet. Kitchen roll and all kinds of wipes in black bag inside my kitchen bin which is then put in black general rubbish bin.

Hi Dottie It may be worth speaking to someone at your local council. My council will arrange for extra capacity (here it is an extra black bin) for additional waste due to a medical condition. They also arrange help with putting your bins out if you are unable to do so and don't have anyone to do it for you. I hope this helps.

Have a nice day

Pat

I didn't know that about the council, very helpful, thanks xx

I'm not sure if it's all councils - maybe I just have a nice one! They give extra bins for a family with a child under three as well (for the disposable nappies). xx

Still worth a try, may even shame them into it by asking !😘 xx

If you have a garden, all paper will compost.

We are down to once every three weeks. Plus the bins are the small type.

Recycling every week but cannot put them in there. I am very good at all of it. But my main waste is the health stuff. x

I personally dont like the idea of composting tissues with the germs they have in them, its a shame we cant burn this type of waste. I put all tissues /wipes and kitchen tissue in the general waste. I noticed there was some advice on the morning tv today asking people to make sure they dont put batteries in the household bins as they can explode and cause fires in the sorting sheds and in the transport. I take mine to the supermarket as they have special bins for them. Surprising how many people dont know this x

Batteries to supermarket too. I suppose you could burn on a log burner. I cannot have one re lungs as many of us I suppose.

I wouldn't have one, they are so dirty and cant imagine what they do to your chest. I think us lunggies have enough problems x

If you can’t get an extra bin some councils will provide yellow incineration bags for medical waste/nappies/sanitary waste (like the bags you see in hospital bins.

Just to add to this older post, my sis has carers 3 x daily since massive stroke. All her 'waste & wipes' are put in plastic bags then into general waste. I know it's awful should at the very least be biodegradable bags but it's not up to me - if it was I'd organise yellow bags for medical waste and biodegradable bags/wipes. Loo roll is so soft these days I use it instead of tissues & flush well.

My bin collectors said if I contact the GP and ask for a letter to send to the council they should provide a larger bin. Poor sis I hope she improves. x
