Meet Theodore aka Ted the respiratory clever clogs

Up until recently, i had 3 collies but unfortunately my rescue baby Dale passed away. I now am back to just Bear & Ted.

At first i thought it was fluke but have now realised that this little guy, Ted has the knack of picking up on severe sats drops before i feel the affects.

If my sats head towards the 80's or lower, my little buddy naturally alerts me. Its incredible! To the point where he wakes me up at night. I've just been diagnosed with mild sleep apnea, but this guy was sussing it out way before the tests. He's really helped me avoid multiple hypoxia episodes and allowed me to build up my exercise tolerance in a steady way.

Being a collie, he does herd me out on walks if he senses the drop. He has kept me safe countless times and really settled anxiety about going out solo (or even with friends). I am now in talks on encouraging this behaviour and hopefully professionally training him.

Whilst Bear doesn't sense it like Ted, he has picked up on Ted's behaviour and i now have 2 large collies body guarding me if i'm dropping 🥰. Ted has such a natural talent at this, i am very lucky to have the two that i do!

From what i've seen so far there isn't a dog who has yet been trained as a respiratory dog. But due to his natural talent, he is being considered for training ❤️

The photo is of Ted nursing me in the armchair on a bad day.

What an amazing dog and it looks as if he’s saying “don’t worry, I’m here.” It would be great if he could be trained and have Bear follow in his footsteps perhaps. Take care xxxx

What an amazing and heartwarming story. Our animal companions are incredible aren’t they! So pleased you have Ted and his trainee Bear, looking after you. Ted is looking very attentive in that photo.

All good wishes to the three of you xx

That's amazing and really interesting. I know boarder collies are the most intelligent breed of dog.

That's Amazing that Ted can pick up on this. Dogs and other animals are so intelligent but just like people some notice symptoms early. I used to have a dog that used to know if I was not well and would not leave my side. Brian

What a tonic, that face could make anyone feel better. What a great thing that he can detect in you. Amazing. I’ve had dogs all my life, even during my birth in the back bedroom all those years ago. They’ve all had their funny little quirks but I’ve never picked up any life saving skills with them, sensitivities but no skills. Your very lucky and truely loved by Ted and of course Bear. Take care 🦊

Their remarkable dogs. I always remember somebody on television talking about her rescue dog (tiny little thing) kept pawing at her left breast and wouldn't let up. She eventually went to get it checked and she had early breast cancer, successfully treated. Marvellous they are. 😉

Dogs are amazing! Ted looks lovely, and how wonderful you have him to look after you like that. I have just come back from looking after my dad for the weekend and his staffie, Betsy, is very understanding too. If I am breathless, she stops jumping around and just sits beside me with her nose on my lap until I recover! And she doesn't know me that well 🧡🧡 xx

Dogs are amazing aren’t they? My two aren’t medical detectors as far as I know, but they do know when I’m not well or in pain , and of course they’re such good company.

Hugs to you and your collies. Collies are amazing (yes, I am owned by two collies also). One of them will wake me during the night if I'm wheezing and he'll also keep sniffing my breath if I'm getting an infection. Sorry to all the other breeds, but best dogs ever. 😊. On a walk the other will go to a bench and stare at me if she thinks I'm SOB and need a rest, if I ignore her I get herded to the bench. We are both very highly valued sheep 😂

I get herded to. It sounds like your baby is displaying similar behaviour ❤️ They are amazing dogs! Could never be without a collie now.
