Pneumonia/cancer

Hi I'm new to this forum but great to hear other peoples experiences. I was diagnosed with pneumonia after an x-ray. Had antibiotics and fingers crossed, not feeling too poorly. Doctor said it was a small showing on the x-ray and that no cancer concerns at all. He said I will have a follow up x-ray in a few weeks to see if it has cleared and if not then further tests will be done to see about further treatment. I have since read a few physicians reports/surveys saying that follow up x-rays are done to check for underlying cancer. I'm very worried now as my doctor didn't say this. Has anyone else been through this?

Welcome to the forum Scooby. Try not to worry and do ask questions when you have the follow up x-Ray in two weeks time. Xxx

As others have indicated an x ray follow up after pneumonia is very much a standard procedure. If the doctor suspected cancer then you would be having a far more detailed scan such as an MRI or CT. I am an old hand with pneumonia and what's happening to you is normal. The doctor will want to see that your lung fields are clear. You may need further antibiotics etc. Obviously you are very worried but in reality it is just a follow up....please let us know the result.

Thanks so much for your reply ☺️ I was just worried because originally I was told what you said about how if a follow up shows pneumonia hasn't cleared then it's just a case of different antibiotics but my pharmacist has said that if an x-ray isn't clear, you have a CT scan to look for underlying malignancy because it must be something serious to still show on xray. My follow up x-ray is only 5 weeks from the initial one, don't know if that's enough time for it to clear. I'm sure I'm being stupid but I'm scared 😳

Just to add, your pharmacist is a pharmacist, not a diagnostic consultant or doctor. ××

I very much agree with peege. If there was anything suspect they would not have told you that there is no suspicion of cancer. It is so wrong of people with inadequate training in the area of diagnostics to worry people just to increase their own sense.of importance. It is important though, that the hospital check that the pneumonia is not.lurking. Concentrate on looking after yourself and getting well and ignore the nonsence.

Hi. I had Pneumonia a few years ago & was in hospital for IV anti biotics. They said they would do a follow up x Ray in 6 weeks to check the Pneumonia had resolved. In my case it was still there. It’s normal procedure I believe. Try not to worry.

Checking up to see if the pneumonia has cleared. I had a few x rays and then a scan as my pneumonia wasn’t clearing as expected. X

Hi. What follow up treatment did you have?

I was on anti biotics for a few months. As it wasn’t clearing and I was still poorly I had a scan and mild bronchiectasis was diagnosed along with asthma after doing some tests. I now take fostairnexthaler and try to manage with walks, water and a good diet xx. Pneumonia takes a while to recover from and it’s all about taking baby steps

Oh no, you've really been through it 😞 I'm eating healthily and exercising, as much as Im able at the moment. I'm an ex smoker which adds to my worries but, up until I got pneumonia,I've never had any health issues, always kept my weight down and do weight training so I'm keeping everything crossed that my follow up x-ray is clear.....and if not, then hopefully, it is stubborn pneumonia and nothing more sinister. I wish you well, take care
