Viruses often trigger asthma+ its autumn - in North England at least,we've had a lot of rain+ fluctuating temperatures.i always increase salbutamol whn asthma "off".my approach is wait + see first few days.lots of colds about at moment

There is very high humidity in the air at the present, which won't help. I've just invested in a dehumidifier which I put on once a day near bed time to get the house humidity down to a safe level. It's helping me sleep a lot better.

it could be pollen. We have a large Atlantic Cedar near the house which is covered with cones at the moment and when the wind blows clouds of yellow pollen drift from it. I rarely need my inhaler but have needed it every day for the last couple of weeks.

There are also a lot of viruses doing the rounds!

Hi , looking at your bio I see you have heart problems .

Good idea to contact your health professional as you are needing more of your blue inhaler .

Also contact the ALUK helpline .

Best wishes .

Hi Yumz199725

There could be a variety of reasons you have worsening symptoms. I have added some information from our website about managing your asthma below. It would be a good idea to make an appt with your GP or Asthma Nurse for a review, just to check you are using any medication properly and discuss what to do if you have worsening symptoms.

And as Knitter has mentioned, do give us a call for advice if you wish on 0300 222 5800

Thank you this is really helpful, I have had an asthma review very recently though and it went well. I will definitely call you if I get worsening symptoms.

To a certain extent Yumz it doesn’t really matter what has caused your pf to drop or caused you symptoms (useful to know for future reference of course, so you can avoid it if possible) The important thing right now is to seek medical intervention now to prevent things getting worse. If that coincides with the bodies natural defence system then all the better.

If you have an action plan, now is the time to implement it. If not, contact your GP.

Hi thanks for your reply I do have an asthma action plan and I know that if my peakflow goes to 250 or below then I need to go hospital straight away and be admitted x

Go to your dr and ask for an antibiotic and a steroid. That should get you back on track.

I was told that we can take our ventolin inhaler, my blue one, as often as we needed it. But I figure that if I need to take it really often, then I probably need to see the dr. But it's supposed to be safe enough to take hourly if you need to.

Take care xx

An other trigger for asthma is fungal spores and a condition called acute bronco pulmonary Aspergillosis, it is rare and can be difficult to diagnose as most GP don’t see it. For more info website Aspergillosis.org this is a NHS website, but do be careful if researching as there is a lot of scary stuff on the internet
