Update on OP

Hello all hope you are well. Had my cancer op on Tuesday. . Only hitch was traffic delays on way back due to road works . Have to go back to original hospital to have stitches out in September. Gosh that's another month gone almost, soon be planning Christmas. Got a message from GP to book flu injection but can't make the date they want, due to other commitment . But thought others would like to know the annuals are starting. Local chemist says virus ones may start in October. Still a bit sickly from op and my face looks a bit red still but I am sure it will heal nicely once the stitches are removed. Have a lovely bank holiday weekend all

So pleased your op went well Katie and sending best wishes for a good recovery. I’ve booked our flu jabs for 7/10 at our local pharmacy. No idea when covid jabs will be available but will keep an eye out.

Take it easy and enjoy your weekend.

Good to hear it went well Katie, I'm sure you will heal nicely and you can put that behind you! :)

Please don't mention that C******** word again so soon! 😂😂 xx

Well Leo60 , last time I had one of these it was seen and removed within the week and results back within two that was in the good old days about thirty six years ago and followed up for two years no plastic surgeons or things that can look under your skin to see how bad it is or isn't. Times have changed including how long it takes to get a biopsy through. But it was done quick considering the strikes and waiting lists for appointments. 👍 Thank you for reply.

Glad things went well for you Katie but I'm not sure that I can forgive you for mentioning Christmas 😉

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply to CDPO16

Why not mention Christmas gives plenty of time to be prepared CDP016, its good to look forward and gives something to think about even though for some it is a sad time including myself, but for others its a happy time. Time to start making the Christmas cake if you do your own I do not anymore . Looking forward to the lovely Autumn colour on the trees. 🙂

I hate Christmas Katie but I know many others enjoy it. The Autumn colours I agree are something to look forward to but we've had a very poor summer this year. Carole xx

Yes the summer has been a disappointment this year, so unpredictable. As I look out of the window today its bright but scattered with thick grey & black smoke like clouds. Must look on line for a garden vac to take up the falling leaves from my artificial grass, how times have changed from gardens and allotments to artificial grass and vacs. Have a good day. xx

It says on the ward discharge just restart medication or in layman's terms keep taking the pills.😀 Just the cataracts to work at next . once my face is healed. Its looking better than when I left hospital. Thank you for message.

I'm glad its almost over for you and they got it all. My bro in law had the same and stitches out yesterday. When he was home I asked him if he had any sunscreen for sensitive skin .....after he'd asked "what for?" 🙄 I had to explain the importance of protecting the skin nowadays . Dear oh dear. I'm sure you'll take better care Katie so very best wishes for good healing. P

People don't realise that its sun that causes the skin cancers mainly or the rays in the sun. If you are prone it pays to wear sun screen when out even in light sun. I think it's getting worse as the sun we have gets hotter. Some people sit out in sun for hours and never get skin cancer so I think there must be other things that contribute in your genetics I guess to you getting it. Hope your brother -in-law is recovered soon now the stitches are out . I just hope mine heals well as my skins older might have to start wearing a mask like Harlequins (smiles)

Only just seen your post now, Katie. So glad your op is over. Sending my very best wishes for your full recovery. You're so right about extra care in the sun these days, especially with global warming. Sun's rays more dangerous than ever apparently.

Also had rude awakening on that front recently, with three biopsies; thankfully two are fine and just need precautionary extra excision on the other. When I think how daft we (ok, I) had been back in the day, lying on beaches ... ! The dermatologists told me to wear Factor 50 and 5* UVA every day, all day, Factor 30 on a grey day!

You have a really good weekend. 👍🙂xx

katieoxo60 in reply to BronchyBronwen

Thank you for the tip, fortunately I don't go out in the sun much nowadays but I still got a recurrence nearly 40 years on. Feel a bit sad that my face will be scared after all these years but hopefully no other cancers occur that are far worse. I was quite surprised that they class this surgery as elective I would have thought that cancer removal was necessary for patients peace of mind and establish no further damage would occur. Unfortunately I could not go private as they don't have theatre treatment at the private clinic in the city and I could not travel to other areas. But its done now and swiftly so 👍to the NHS.

Am certain you knew all this anyway from your own experience. Just posted really as (hopefully) a timely reminder for everyone else. Yes, NHS fantastic and would be even more so with better funding. Stay well. xx

Dear Katie, Glad that all went well and hope that the cancer is well and truly zapped. Hope you can have a nice relaxing long weekend. Thanks for the warning about the annuals- my surgery and pharmacy are obviously not on the ball. I shall spend Sunday at my beloved windmill, climbing up all 5 floors if I feel up to it. Big if- well four floors perhaps. Look after yourself. xxx

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply to Alberta56

Enjoy your windmill climbing , unfortunately I can't mount steps only with assistance .i.e grab bars , stick , crutch or someone to hold onto. I am thinking of trying one of those bars that slides on the bannister rail to walk up stairs . Looking forward to a peaceful weekend although two family members have said they will pop round . Take care xx

The windmill has bannisters all the way up so I can haul myself up. Courtesy of Health and Safety. Something that slides on the bannister rails sounds interesting. Hope the relatives will pamper you good and proper. xxx

Good morning Katie. So pleased to hear your operation went well and hope you recover quickly. Yes our doctors are doing flu jabs the last Saturday in September but I am away that weekend so will have to make an appointment. I see there's stories about a new strain of covid that is spreading and getting worse. Take care and hope you enjoy the Bank Holiday. Brian

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply to Bingo88

Good morning Bingo88, my local chemist said I can have mine done there which is a bit nearer for walking, have to ring my Gp and ask first they may have more than one clinic for jabs as there are a lot of patients. I was thinking of the virus as two of the theatre staff were coughing . Alls well so far but it was bleeding again in the night not a lot , just reminding me its still healing yet (smiles) not to overdo things. Thank you for message enjoy long weekend.

Good morning Katie. Hope everything goes OK with your wound healing. Yes I remember Boots giving me a leaflet about the flu jab last week when I got my prescription. Take care. Brian

Good morning Brian, unfortunately this morning there's a slight bleed again, so I will have to slow down so the blood pressure is not raised. only a few days till I go back to the hospital, once the bank holidays over. Enjoy your day.

The months soon pass with these conditions - Seems only yesterday I was diagnosed. Time just fly's by.

I had same yesterday - The home journey from hospital was over a hour for just 17 miles, the traffic was terrible.

I am booked in for my flue injection in October.

I wish you well with your ops, seems rough now but it's well worth it.

Take Care,

Hi Katie. It’s something well worth having done. You can hardly see mine I had removed off my leg. I’ve got a bit of a dent but that was to be expected after having it done twice. It’s about six months ago I had mine now. I hope yours heals as well. Xx

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply to Mavary

Hi Mavary, nice to see you again , mine was on the side of my nose and the one before that was up on cheek near eye. They have done a flip fold I think its called so most of the scar will be down the side of my nose , I wear glasses which will detract from the scarring. Glad to hear your experience was good. mine is looking good so far but a bit more bleeding today. Hope you are enjoying the bank holiday weekend. Bye for now

The wound is still a bit red but it is healing up nicely. However for cancers you usually have to be followed up for some time after I expect in this day and age it will possibly be a phone call consult unless a reoccurrence happens. Thank you for reply.
