I have been on it a few months but always with antibiotics for my lungs. Now my lungs are finally clear of infection I have stopped. This is the only drug new to my mix so wondering .

Ah antibiotics, they really mess with your guts. If you can afford it can you get some probiotics to take for a few weeks to get the good bacteria back into your digestive system. I'm taking a 20 billion capsule daily at the moment after 3 weeks of abs to sort mine. I get mine from Healthspan (no relation I promise). They're just good quality and best of all come by post through the letter box. Plenty of fluids, veg n fruit . Prunes, figs, citrus are all excellent for you present problem or get some Fibrogel to assist - I used it to great result a few years ago, just mix with water & knock it back fast before it goes thick. Comes in orange or lemon flavour.

As my mum died of metastases from bowel cancer I try to look after my 'other end by adding a teaspoon of ground flaxseed to my porridge, muesli or granola - not unground as they go straight through without releasing the fibre within.

If it doesn't clear with the above within the week do contact your GP in case something else is going on.

Thank you. I had forgotten about Flaxseed so yes will add that in . I am Coeliac also and it does effect my water absorption through small intestine as diagnosed quite late. I am finding probiotics hard on my gut atm. But might try your brand. Yes if you have seen bowel cancer it is always to be a thought. I had a relative too.

Ah celiac makes it all extra difficult for you. I think ground flaxseed could be very good for that (but you'd better double check) it has so much other good stuff about it. Also you could look up pre and probiotic foods to add to your diet, I do it from time to time to remind myself that I'm eating right too - as well as which is which!

Best, Peege

Yes will have to look at diet. I keep prunes in my diet daily but have grown to hate the sight of them. Flaxseed is on my shopping list. Thank you.

Good luck (I use my old coffee bean grinder to gind the seeds as its less expensive than buying ready ground)

Hi - i do know about drug induced constipation. I take Morphine and that constipates. You need to drinks lots of fuids, pref water.

You can also use (Laxido Orange oral powder sachets) .

You can ask your doctor for then, or I think you can buy them.

Yes it really is hard going literally !!I am not allowed Morphine atm. I will try up fluids.

Yea certain constipation and morphine is no go - I have gratitude for (Laxido Orange oral powder sachets) . and lots of glasses of water/pop. "Upping Fluids" really is a good idea and brown bread, high fiber food does help.

Not for me - no such effect either way. It’s always possible your situation might be connected with some other factor.

Yes looks more like dehydration.

I have recently had an episode of constipation following cessation of Azithromycin. I think the advice to drink plenty of water (2L per day) is excellent. If it doesn't clear in a few days you should see your GP. I take carboscistiene and loose stools is usually the outcome. Hope you move soon xxx

Thank you. It really is getting on top of me. But yes I was on Clarithromycin for quite a while and its the same drug type. It was ok then.

Hi Dottie, I've been on Carbo for a few years (2 x three times a day) and they do the opposite to me (spend most of the morning 'camping out' in the bathroom 😅). But I think being constipated is worse. Makes you feel rubbish. Before I was put on Carbo I used to suffer sometimes and found nuts helped. Can't eat nuts now as hard to swallow but nut butter works really well for me. Cashew nut butter is a favourite of mine 😊. Hope you get it sorted soon. 🙂 xxx

Thank you. I am pretty fed up so hoping some of this great advice might help.

I have taken it at 375 x2 and twice daily for many years with no adverse effects. I read that diarrhoea is possible but not constipation. So might it be another medication?

Dottie11 profile image
Dottie11 in reply toTimberman

I think it is my low ability to stay hydrated and poor absorption as well. I might need to re think my meds . But yes everyone has trouble the other way if any. Thank you
