lung volume reduction through value insertion

Hi All

don't often post but do read them all.

I am due a consultation to discuss the possibility of value insertion but apparently they now put you under with anaesthetic and put you on a breathing machine and they are worried about me coming off that and say it is a risk so I don't know what I should do. They say it should make the difference of being able to walk another 60-80 m which doesn't sound a lot for the risk. It used to be non evasive without anaesthetic but that seems to have changed and you are in hospital for 5 x days

your words of wisdom would be appreciated

Hi Poppy2525 - Nobody can really help bar expert, I would talk this over with your GP - Benefit and risks.

Not everyone is able to have this op - I have read different views on this and some say none invasive .

This is a read you may like, Best of Luck.

Good morning poppy2525. Any surgery has possible risks. These are things that will be discussed with you at your consultation, go armed with all your questions and fears. Then you will be able to make an informed choice as to going ahead with the surgery. I am lucky that I have no other health issues apart from very dodgy lungs so I was in the “lower” risk group. By having BLVR it was hoped to give me a few years of easier breathing with a better FEV1. For me any risks of the surgery were worth a gamble, I still have a lot of things I want to do and places to see, without surgery this was getting harder and harder to achieve. If you are at the beginning of the process, there are quite a few tests to be done to find out if you and your lungs are suitable for the valves. At the end of the day if you are offered surgery only you can make that final decision. Good luck and I wish you well.🙂

I don't understand if it used to be non invasive why would they use anesthetic now. I don't know about these things but I am sure someone else here will. Have you researched it? Good luck chook 👍

I have had valves fitted on four occasions over the last eight years and all of them have been under anaesthetic, I couldn’t imagine it being done any other way.

I’m really sorry I can’t offer any advice but if you do a search for valves you should find several posts as there have been members here who have had the procedure done. I wish you well in whatever decision you make and hope and pray all goes well should you decide to go ahead with the procedure.
