Alcohol: Does anyone here with asthma... - Lung Conditions C...
Alcohol
Alcohol is a Respiratory suppressant, so yes you probably will notice your breathing is worse for a few days after drinking .....I think it should come with a respiratory warning, alas too many people would then stop drinking and the government would loose massive revenue.
Good morning Yes I have noticed that if I just have 2 pints on holiday and have to go up stairs to the hotel room I am more breathless than normally
Hi I used to drink wine but definitely felt off and struggled with my breathing after I was diagnosed with respiratory conditions. I now don't drink alcohol and go for alcohol half percent wine or mocktails
I rarely drink, but was told by the physio there was something (sulphites?) in red wine that has an effect on breathing.
Alcohol does make my breathing worse, chardonnay is the worst one for me.....I start producing phlem within an hour of drinking it, which runs back my throat and feels like I'm going to choke. Being sick, plus taking ventolin and I'm feeling better within a couple hours. I now avoid all alcohol as it's scary when this happens. xx
definitely the sulphites in wine (and foodstuffs) cause me breathing problems, plus the dehydration from alcohol doesn’t help my poor old lungs. Ah well 🙄
I used to enjoy a few white wines of an evening, but reluctantly had to accept that it was making my breathing worse ! I had one glass yesterday with a friend I hadn't seen for a while and I had to go to bed! I just felt tired and out of sorts, not worth it, I will have to stick to chocolate ! xx
Yes although I do not drink alcohol nowadays I used to find red wine although good for the heart is not good for the breathing . So you are correct some drinks upset your lungs ect
It definitely doesn't help . I notice it more the next day
I don’t really drink alcohol now but may have a gin and tonic or 2 on holiday so I will see if my breathing is affected. Interesting. I know my sleep is a lot worse after a drink of alcohol hence usually drink water or occasional mocktail x
Gave up that poison five years ago after it made my heartbeat really fast the next day, realised that a hangover had the same symptoms as poisoning. If in doubt cut it out
my husband gets breathless after beer ( doesn’t stop him though) and even worse if eating a meal when drinking it.
I have not drunk alcohol for many years. For no other reason than it makes me very itchy. It was mostly red and white wine that I noticed it with. It was not just a wee itchy bit but virtually my whole body. So i am only presuming it would have had an impact on other parts of my body
