Has anyone else on this site with IPF noted a growing intolerance to alcohol as the condition pr progresses. It's only a small thing in the scheme of things I know but nevertheless frustrating. Just one more gate closing.

Intolerance to alcohol
Baldie
Not so much an intolerance to alcohol as an intolerance to fizzy drinks. I had half a tumbler of snowball last night (advocat and lemonade) and I burped all the way to bed. I would suggest having alcohol every now and then if you are prepared to live with the consequences. A little of what you fancy does you good.

COPD and Alcohol Consumption
Glutathione deficiency: This antioxidant is found in the lungs. Since drinking alcohol lowers your body’s glutathione levels, it can aggravate your COPD symptoms and cause a flare-up.
Decreased lung function: Chronic alcohol consumption is associated with decreasing lung function in patients with lung disease. Alcohol can also decrease your ability to clear mucus from the airway, which could pose a serious health risk if you’re experiencing life with COPD.
Medications: Alcohol is known to interfere with several different COPD medications, including glucocorticoids and antibiotics. It can also increase the effects of anxiety and pain medications to the point that your heart and breathing slows down to a dangerous, sometimes fatal, level.
It’s your personal decision whether you want to drink alcohol or not, but the decision shouldn't be taken lightly. The best approach is to discuss your personal risks with your doctor first so he or she can assess your medical history, current health and medications. During the discussion, you and your doctor may come to a conclusion about how much alcohol you can consume without endangering yourself.

I used to love a drink but suddenly found a few years ago it made me feel horrible. I'd feel the effects very quickly and get a hangover straightaway and often be sick. Never suffered with hangovers before. I just assumed my body was telling me to stop. At least I didn't have to "give it up", it just happened naturally. May have one now and then but don't seem to enjoy it any more. x
Dry now for alcoholics no middle ground drinking or dry 1 drink all I need for destruction. Alcohol Intolerant totally that gate must be behind me when who knows what my health could have been without the crazy part that never was hungover the party rocked for years hiding from reality behind my bottles
Hi I have IPF and noticed this, thought it was related to alcohol diluting the red blood cells making the already difficult job of transporting O2 around the body harder. Then I started oramorph so had to stop. The hospice advised there are Benefits to alcohol so have started to drink again. It's a cases of all things in moderation and a lot of the effects are in our heads I think. Raise a glass of Christmas cheer and enjoy YOLO.
I have been told that if I have ONE alcoholic drink it could kill me.Haven't tried one in the last three years
