Does anyone else get tangled up in the tubing when using this? If only you could get tubing that was coiled. Any solutions?

I also struggle with the tubing,it’s difficult, especially when vacuuming.I asked the guys from the oxygen firm about coiled tubing.

They told me it wasn’t an option.

Sorry I can’t provide a more positive answer

I’ve always wondered about a coiled tubing with an automatic recoil. Sounds like one for dragon’s den.

I think many of us have thought we would tubing which recoils.. I could try putting that question to Deborah Meaden on Twitter. What do you think ?

Probably wouldn’t make them enough money.

It can be attached to skirting boards to keep it out of the way but then there is a problem with doors. I can't do much hoovering now but used to sling it over my shoulder and trail it behind me. I often came to a sudden halt when it caught on something.

Hi Annieosb, my heart goes out to you, I remember when I was on oxygen 24/7 walking around the house trying to avoid tripping over the tubing was a nightmare, in the end after many falls I switched to my Portable Oxygen Concentrator which I use for my ambulatory oxygen, it is much safer providing you are able to use a Pulse Flow Oxygen Concentrator, fortunately this is the only oxygen I have to use now for walking and exercise.

It might be worth speaking to your Respiratory Nurse/Specialist, to test if you are suitable for using a Pulse Flow Oxygen Concentrator.

I hope I have been some help.

Ian.

Hello! Me too! In fact there must be thousands of us with this problem! I need a mechanism like on a retractable dog's lead. During the day I use just my downstairs concentrator as I find continuously swapping to a cylinder a real pain in the wotsit, especially as I am up and down to the loo (water tablets🙄). I wonder if there is something like that out there .............. xx

Yes I find the same problem. Especially when grandchildren come round tripping and trying to put it in their mouths. Coiled one would be better.

Have a word with your oxygen supplier, I am with BOC and they have fitted swizzels to my long lead downstairs which at least keeps the lead straight and is a great help.

I asked the BOC guy to cut me a shorter tube as I wear my concentrator in a back pack

Oh, not cylinders but a concentrator? Did you buy it or was it supplied?

Tawny10 profile image

it was supplied on advice from my oxygen nurse for ambulatory oxygen

A backpack? Do you have a portable concentrator?

yes

I don’t trip, but my husband frequently gets a foot caught and the cannula gets ripped off my face which gives me a fright and hurts my ears and face. A portable concentrator would only have a maximum of 10 or so hours depending on your flow rate, and would be no use if you are on oxygen 24/7. It would also be a nuisance to have to carry it around the house.

Hi Annieosb,

Yes it is a bit of a bind isn't it ? I don't find it too bad, although when I have visitors they are quite scared of tripping or stepping on it. I sometimes clip it to the bottom of my t shirt or jumper which does help. !

Not easy. Coiling will not help as it will collapse if pulled too hard which is very easy to do. Its a serious trip hazard of course. When I move I make sure which side the tubing needs to be and then carry three of four loops in my hand as I recede from the device. On the way back I 'reel' some in. This reduced the trip risk. But then you have to be careful not to make it too taut or it will come up off the ground and be worse! Meantime I run out of puff!

hi Annie. I have 40ft of extension tube. It tangles because you go here and there turning around and it causes the tube to twist. My solution is using 4 x 10ft tubes connected by swivel connectors. No more tangles!

That sounds like a good idea. Talked with the oxygen nurse and I am not suitable for the mobile concentrator. However she has suggested liquid oxygen. Anyone use this??
