achey chest - is it because of bronchiectasis?

hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.

I have achey ribs, they have ached on and off for years but are quite sore this weekend mainly on my left but a bit on right too.

In the past GPs have blamed pulling muscles coughing, bronchial spasm (is that even a thing?) and asthma generally.

It’s not a new thing but just curious if this is part of bronchiectasis and if there are any tips for easing it.

I’m bringing up slightly more chest gunk than usual which might be pollen related?

I’m doing all my usual inhalers and chest clearance

hope you are having a lovely Sunday

Emily xx

Hi Emily it does sound familiar to me as when I have those symptoms it is usually a chest infection. It might be a good idea to get it checked by your GP. Hope it's nothing but always best to check especially as your coughing more gunk. Best wishes Chris x

I get achey chest muscles from coughing a lot or breathing too deeply too much when doing a more physical task without taking reliever inhaler first. My GP called it costochondritis.

So yours may be down to coughing a lot more - but do get your doctor to check again, as there maybe something that can be prescribed to improve things.

Hi Emily I have fibromyalgia and asthma and acid reflux. A little while ago, I started developing a sharp pain that started under my left rib and sometimes went across to my right one. My doc diagnosed costocondritis. I noticed recently that It gets worse a little while after eating my tea. I saw the doc again and she said the extra pain after eating is due to stomach gases that build up. I started taking Aloe Vera juice to settle down my stomach, it has helped a bit but the rib pain is still there. My doc said to use ibuprofen gel for the rib pain, it didn't help.

It probably is best to get a second opinion your issue could be something else entirely.

If u find an answer let us know.

Good luck x

I get achy ribs too. I have ankylosing spondylitis and two fractured vertebrae and I think that's what causes mine. Do you have arthritis? I thought it was odd since my ribs don't really have joints like knees or hips, but guess the inflammation causes it. I even thought one time I was having a heart attack because every time I inhaled it hurt. Fortunately that wasn't it. It's been going on for years with me also. I agree with Minehead123. Check with your GP and good luck.
