Hello vittorio, things are pretty dire everywhere now and it’s not easy to see a GP he or she. We’re very lucky here and can get to see somebody where possible even if not a doctor. Our nurse practitioners and paramedics are very good thank goodness.

I hope you do get a face to face appointment soon as that is what is needed. Good luck to you. Xxxx❤️

It certainly is a strange system these days. I rang for a non urgent appointment and was told to ring back the next morning at 8am. I explained I didn’t need a same day appointment but they no longer book ahead. There also seems to be a big turnover of doctors, with only one “regular” doctor who is nowhere to be seen.

However, this being the norm these days, I still think you have waited far too long. Time to make a nuisance of yourself I think.

I’m fortunate that my surgery has a message system, I can email them with a question and I get a message reply several days later. I’m waiting today for a phone call from them as most medication was due for review on 3 March, later put forward for review 7 April, as they sent me script of all items on it on 6 April, some of which I didn’t need but glad to have most. However this will be first time spoken to Dr for about 6 months. Having a rare condition PCD sometimes causes delay. I notice that some people on this forum do not define why they are on it, age etc, that in my view doesn’t help understand their problems. Jean x

I believe HU is designed to help people understand their health conditions, how they manage them and what they are able to do whilst living a reasonable life. If personal information is not given some value of the posting is lost. Best regards, Jean x

Feel your pain. Only in my case half the time my doctors are rubbish. I saw 3 doctors about the same medication and the first 2 differed on me taking these actual pills, I thought for heavens sake best out of 3 is it. Surely they should all agree. I asked for the pulmonary specialist up there and the receptionist replied (oh their all pretty good) come on people. Anyway saw someone completely new (not a specialist in copd) gave me a medication so wrong for me that when I walked my dogs with my partner I nearly collapsed so short of breath, shaking and dizzy. Ever since I can't be bothered. Even thinking of cashing in on one of my pensions and going private. I really have lost any confidence in my doctors 😕 all of them. Keep pushing and get stern with them if you have to

The system has changed now, it is a walk in so no need for appointments. I saw my doctor on Wednesday and went for the xray yesterday. The doctor sends your details direct and it is on the system for when you turn up, it works very well x

Sympathy, but that's not a lot of help. I think phoning 111 is a good suggestion. They might be able to shake the surgery up.

Write to the practice manager. Address it 'private and confidential to be opened by the addressee only'.

My condition deteriorated on Thursday after a few breathless days. My daughter in law, a formidable lady. spoke to the receptionist who arranged a call back. A few words with the call back doctor and I'm in the car, off to the surgery and prescribed Doxy and a big dose of prednisolone, saving me a trip to A&E. I also have an oxygen review booked. I rarely need to call the doctor as apparently I know how to manage my condition.

We have just been aloud to book a routine appointment on line but you have to keep looking and hope your lucky but sounds way better than what's happening to you, there is such a shortage of gps maybe the government should pay them and nurses a decent wage to encourage them to stay in the uk , x

give them more - and they will just 'work' less ...!!!! 😡

It’s so sad to hear so many people struggling to see/speak too their GP…I’m lucky I usually get to speak to a Dr same/next day when I say I have IPF and possible infection. I would ring your practice and ask to speak to the practice manager and you will get an appointment so fast you will be surprised! I’m sure somewhere there are targets on how long a patient is expected to wait before being seen.

I agree, my amazing doctor left a year who knew everything about me ( copd and kidneys) I now have a doctor who hasn’t got a clue about me, and that if I see him and not another that I have not spoken to before. I feel totally on my own now, no one is looking after me, and I feel like I have been pushed to the side!

I hope you get sorted soon.

We seem to have lost the guist of your post vittorio , appointments with doctors has become complex . Firstly some surgeries struggle to do face to face based on staff levels. You do not have a specific doctor these days however you should have a named surgery doctor in charge of your care and the care other staff give you. Change over can take several months in respect of medical details and new doctor allocation but should not prevent you seeing a doctor or nurse at the practice as you are an NHS patient. If you are having problems contact PALS or the practice manager. You should be given a face to face appointment to be accepted by the surgery of your choice. I agree with others you need to be persistant now they have had plenty of time to contact you with details ect. Hope you soon get this sorted its not good you could be ill and need a prescription or something.

IN REPLY TO ‘WHERE ARE THE ALL THE MALE DOCTORS’. THEY ARE ALL ON THE 19th HOLE OF THEIR FAVORITE GOLF COURSE CARRYING A THREE MILE LONG STETHISCOPE FOR LUNGY CONSULTATIONS. WISHING PPL LIKE US WOULD STOP INTERFERING WITH THEIR LIFESTYE.

I think it depends where you live. My gp service has a messaging service and I usually get a reply the same day and appointments are booked if required. On my visit there last week I discovered I could book an appointment for my husband and not use the messaging service. I even choose the dr to see. Take care x

18 months from diagnosis I had a letter the other day for an appointment with the cardiologist by phone ! Can't wait to see how that goes. Welcome to the NHS Conservative version

Oh dear. I am sorry to read so much contempt for our GPs and nurses. I know the ability to get an appointment varies according to what part of the country you are in. And I am very lucky to have an excellent surgery in south Cumbria. But I think it’s disrespectful to claim that women doctors are sitting there knitting and male doctors are on the golf course. That’s the hate language of trolling on the internet.

There’s a lot wrong with our NHS. But that’s generally not the fault of the staff but of government policy and our own lack of willingness to pay for a decent service. Why not write to your MP and say we are willing to pay so that nurses, radiologists, doctors etc are better paid and don’t head off for Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
