I use a Brita, fills from the tap & has charcoal filters which I renew regularly. I dont know if that would be adequate to filter out Ralstonia though. Your safest bet would be to use boiled water (in my opinion, I'm not a medic). Personally I would be taking lots of extra vitamins to build up my immune system to help fight off the little blighters.
There is an old fashioned water cleaning technique called double boiling, that helps to get rid of bacteria in water.
First, filter the water with charcoal filters.
Then boil or microwave-boil the water for 10 minutes.
Let the water stand and cool for several hours so that any remaining dormant bacteria come to life.
Then boil or microwave boil the water for 10 minutes again to kill those residual bacteria off.
Keep the water in sterilised bottles.
Hope this helps you.
Blimey, that's a lot of electricity or gas, and don't you need to do enough for face washing and tooth brushing at least?
When I was doing this, I mainly used a microwave. which is much cheaper. I was living in the countryside with no gas and intermittent electricity, so I heated the house and hot water with a solid fuel range. Plenty of space for lots of pans on the hotplate.
Here's a stove like the one I used: donedeal.ie/heating-for-sal...
Rather like the Rayburn I had decades ago, which I cooked on and headed water for washing/bathing the kids. Hard work, so glad for running hot and cold! Is the ralstonia able to survive the chlorine in our UK tap water?
Could you contact a plumber to advise how you could do it/test for it and also to clear your system? I'm assuming you need it filtered before it comes into the house, as steam inhaled from the shower/bath would be a possible route to infection. xx
