Hi I was gargulling water in my mouth and I breathed in and choked on water/toothpaste, I tried to breath but I wasn't able to breath I tried twice to breath in air but I couldn't. On the 3rd try I could start to breath. Its been 3 hours after and my neck hurts and I feel extremely tired and week is this normal after chocking

I don't know about the choking being able to cause such symptoms after choking but, I have found myself choking on my own saliva and it's quite scary and unsettling.

I also regularly choke on dry food like biscuits and feeling like it's gone down the wrong way and coughing and choking. It's pretty scary.

So, I'll be interested to see what other's have to say about it too. xx

I sometimes wonder f there is an irritant in toothpaste, it often starts me coughing.

A friend cannot use any of the normal commercial brands, they irritate her throat. She swears by Kingfisher, which has all natural ingredients. Holland & Barrett sell it for about £3.

Thank you for that Hanne, I will look at that. Toothpastes profess to be whiteners, enamel protectors etc. So probably have a lot of chemicals in them.

They still contain flouride unless otherwise stated.

They make about 10 different flavours and two of them, fennel and mint, come with added fluoride, but you can also get those fluoride-free

There are plenty of irritants in toothpaste & flouride is just one of them!

Hello Daviesanthony, I know how frightening this can be as it happened to me also. My pulmonologist explained that it’s due to a constriction of the bronchial which is not unusual for people with COPD. I used my emergency inhaler & it worked - now I know what it’s for! Hope this is helpful for you. Good luck!

Often choke myself and not really sure why.... if a bad bout of coughing, yes normal to be exhausted for a period after that...

But if prolonged coughing (next day onward) or prolonged fatigue, best to get checked in case water entered lungs!

I do pulmonary drainage on a sloping bed (head down) so empty lungs regularly.

But shakes you up l agree... have been told my reaction to it is a bit relaxed, but then lve been chocking myself regularly for several years!
