Holidays with oxygen?

Hi,My husband has COPD which has deteriorated over the past 3-4 months and it now looks like he will need oxygen. We had planned a boating holiday on the Norfolk Broads but not sure we can still do this. Has anyone got experience of holidaying with oxygen?🙂

you’d have to contact your oxygen supplier to find out how does it works.

Hi nellie_deany, because your husband is already prescribed oxygen, contact your oxygen provider and they will arrange delivery to anywhere in the UK with the local oxygen provider wherever you are staying, you might want to to discuss it with your husband’s Respiratory Nurse/Specialist, to see if he’s fit enough to travel, but if he is it’s quite straight forward to arrange for local oxygen supply and delivery.

I hope I have been some help.

Ian.

We’ve been on holiday several times in the UK with no problem. I contact my oxygen company and they arrange for my prescription to be delivered to wherever we are staying. I’ve only stayed in hotels or cottages, never a boat! Sounds fun!

Hi there. I am fortunate enough not to need oxygen at the moment.

The only thing I would say is to do some research relating to storage of your husband's oxygen and the boat's engine. I'm not saying it is any kind of problem, but were it me or my husband, I would want to make sure we knew of and managed any specific risks.

Hi Nellie, have you asked your husband if he really wants a boating holiday? Personally if I was dependent on oxygen, I definitely would not want a holiday on a boat, but good for him if he’s brave enough. Sorry if I sound negative but years ago two of my my brothers had boats and from my experience you need to be agile and such things as wearing a life jacket (should the need arise) will be more difficult for someone with breathing issues. Best wishes, Jan

Hi my husband is an oxygen user and we hired a boat on the broads, just for a day, in October and there was no issue with his o2 on board.
