Hi i have copd and have had it for many years, and have been doing a excising program and getting ready for a lung reduction op . Went to Papworth on the 15th for a pre-op ready for my op on the 25th , but no it was cancelled on the 27th, big disappoint as you can imagen. My next op date was a week later on the 31st , more worry and stress trying to get my breathing in control only copd people can understand. Its 70 miles from mine so allowed a good journey time, with the help of my neighbour driving and had to be there at 7.00am and booked in, showered and gown on sat in the day lounge until 5.00 pm. A surgeon walked up to me and said yes we can operate but we have no bed for so go home. I was sent home by taxi at their expense of £ 125.80 i wasn't the only one that day to be sent home. Feeling really let down.

That’s so bad and disappointing, after poor day being sent home by taxi is least they could do. Hope you have op very soon with no delays or problems.x
Hope you get your op soon. It's awful to get all braced up and ready for something which then doesn't happen. This happened to a friend of mine when several emergencies came in while he was waiting to go into the theatre.
That’s really tough, Izzywizzy. I do hope the situation at the hospital improves soon so that your op can go ahead. There’ll be lots of us out here thinking of you and wondering what’s happened, so please do let us know how you get on 🤞🤞🤞💐
I'm so sorry to hear this Izzywizzy .... I'm a long time patient there and value the Royal Papworth staff so very highly,, I'm sure there must be a very good reason for them to cancel on your op... can I make a suggestion that you speak with your GP to ask them to recommend hospital transport for you as you have no transport yourself ... and ask staff to note it on your file once it's awarded to you ... Once on their register you can sometimes get next day transport ....
You can't always rely on others to take you ..
I'm really hoping that they can get you sorted ASAP..
I cant imagine how you must have felt Izzywizzy . It takes alot to get ready mentally for any op along with all the problems of not eating/drinking for so many hours beforehand and to travel all that way, its soul destroying. I hope you dont have to wait to long x
What a disappointment for you. Ive had ops cancelled in the past but before I got to hospital. I can only imagine your disappointment. At least you are in the best place when you do finally get your op.
Oh poor you Izzywizzy. The preparation mentally and physically for an op is really hard and to be let down like that is so unacceptable! I am really hoping the next attempt will be successful and the op will be a huge success. I am hoping you will keep posting about your op as I would love to hear all about it. I believe NHS guidelines state that when operations are cancelled, they need to fit you in again within 1 month of the cancelation. You may wish to ask the patient liaison service (PALS) about this. I will be following all your posts now and hope to hear how well it went🤞.
That's rubbish for you! I've had ops cancelled as I've been walking to theatre and the stress!!! It's probably worse now as senior doctors are covering for the striking junior doctors. Hopefully you'll be allocated another slot very soon. Good luck!
