Luforbec.

Has anybody been given Luforbec and had problems with it? I was put on it and ended up with Aspergillosis again. It took seven weeks and steroid in the end to get over it. My Consultant put me on two puffs of Fostair twice a day. He said I could cut down after a while but I found I was beginning to cough again so started back on the two puffs twice a day. I’ve been fine for four and a half years until I was given Lubfrobec. They told me it was the same medication but wanted me toncut down to one puff twice a day. But I started coughing again and as I said ended up with another bout of Aspergillosis. I’ve been on to the Drs to change me back but evertime I ordered Fostair I was sent Luforbec. I’ve been on to the Drs again I’ve spoken to the Asthma nurse and in the end it was decided to put me back on Fostair. I’ve ordered this several times and they keep sending Ventolin. I’ve got five or six lots of ventolin that I won’t be using. I only use it at the end of a cold when I get wheezy or if I have Aspergillosis. Since having it this time my breathing has worsened. I’ve already got Interstitial scarring. I imagine it’s got even worse now. So that medication will be wasted. Has anybody else had the same problem?

I hope you get this sorted out. It must be most frustrating to deal with medics who won't listen to you.

The thing is they have listened to me and have said I can have the Fostair but when I ordered it back along I was sent Luforbec. I’ve had one lot of Fostair sent me in weeks. I’m nearly out now. When I’ve ordered it in between I’ve been assured by the Chemist it will be for Fostair but when the prescription comes it’s always Ventolin. I’ve now got six or seven Ventolin. I just. Don’t know how I can get through to them. I did get a bit irate today. Not actually with the receptionist but I explained I’ve spoken to the Drs and the Asthma nurse and they have all said I can have Fostair. It’s obviously not getting through to the Resident pharmacist. Grr! . She did say she would make sure it was sorted out today. So watch this space.

Are you registered on the NHS app, so can see what drugs are being ordered for you.

No I’m not. I’m not very tech savvy.

Get somebody to show you how to upload and use the NHS app, then you can see electronically what they are doing prescription wise. If it is wrong then you can ring gp reception.

So blinking frustrating. Is it possible to get a paper prescription, at least you would see what has been ordered and the chemist cant fob you off with the wrong meds x

I don’t think it’s the Chemist because I’ve already spoken to them and they told me that they would sort it. I think it might be the surgery’s pharmacist. I’ve had trouble with her before. I take a half a temazepam to send me off to sleep. Otherwise I could be awake all night. She only sent me a letter saying or more or less implying I was an addict and sent a list of how they were cut me down from them. I’d already told two Drs I only need a half a tablet. They were fine with that. In fact I don’t even order them every month. I was so angry. I asked to speak to her and the receptionist went off to tell her. She came back with she will ring you sometime tomorrow. Guess what? I had a phone call from the Dr and I explained it all over again. He was quite happy with me taking a half a tablet. I also told him I was angry at the insinuation.

Think these people go way above what they are supposed to be doing. I had a call from the pharmacist regarding my Ventolin and he wanted to put me on Salbutamol and had quite a strong conversation as he wouldnt take no for an answer, I thought it was the pharmacist at the chemist but wonder now if it was from the surgery. If this half tablet helps you sleep then i would keep taking it, sleep is so important for your health. I would love to have a full nights sleep.

Isn't Ventolin a brand name which is actually Salbutamol?

Izb1 profile image

Its supposed to be but Salbutamol really doesnt work for me and has a terrible taste. I tried it and said i dont want it again but they are using climate change to try and get us of ventolin. I wont be changing thats for sure x

it wasn’t the taste with me it was the fact it just wasn’t working for me.

same here. I’m now back on ventolin. Six lots to date. 🤣. Hopefully no more. I was only ill after they changed my inhalers. I’d been fine for four and a half years. There’s definitely something different with it. It doesn’t work the same.

Hi, I have started coughing more since the chemist gave me Luforbec instead of Fostair, i am seeing the nurse this week so will speak to her about it. It was definitely the chemist as i saw the prescription and the doctor had put Fostair, apparently Luforbec is a cheaper alternative to Fostair that the NHS have started to use.

My lovely Dr has explained to me that Luforbec is exactly the same ingredients. He said that eventually Fostair will be phased out anyway because it’s too expensive a drug. He’s now put me on Luforbec as a trial at my normal dosage of 200/6 two puffs twice a day with his backing if I should need it. I can call him at anytime I presume while he’s at the surgery and he will speak to me. He is such a good Dr and I hope they hold on to him. They are very rare nowadays. He found a Carcinoma in my leg. He sent me to a consultant and I have since had it operated on. Unfortunately they don’t think they’ve got it all and I have to go back on the 3rd of February to have another op. I’m not worried about it as they can usually get it all. It’s just unfortunate that they are not sure. They were trying to give me 100/6 mgs of Luforbec and they wanted me to cut down even more to I think it was one puff a day. This was why it caused the attack of Aspergillosis. They were telling me that it was exactly the same as what I was on already. My normal dosage on Fostair is 200/6 which I kept pointing out and they would come back with its the same. Well of course I ended up ill for seven weeks and on steroids. Now my Dr has put me on a full dose of 200/6 mgs but having the last infection has made me very breathless. I just hope it hasn’t caused more scarring as I’ve already got Interstitial scarring.

Make sure your dosage is the same dosage as Fostair because if it isn’t it could be what is causing the coughing. I’m persevering with my Luforbec at the moment so let’s watch this space. I’ve found it okay so far. I’ve been on it now for a week or more. I noticed the difference straight away with the 100/6 Luforbec. I know I went straight downhill when they first cut me down.

I’m on exactly the same dose, I’ll see what my nurse says. Hope all goes well with your op.

I was on fostair for 3 months. This has changed to Luforbec and each time I take it it makes me cough as soon as I press the button.
