sputum test : can any one tell me how... - Lung Conditions C...
sputum test
Tbh it varies.can be back in 3 days but I've waited over a week at times, then gp has to see it.weekend excepted,I would ring after 3days to see x
At my surgery usually about 5 days
It depends on the bacteria. Common ones might show up after 2-3 days, less common take longer and very uncommon ones could be 6-8 weeks
Depends. In my experience if nothing grows, i.e. no infection 3 days; simple to cure bug, 5 days; difficult to cure bug can be 10 days to suggest the right antibiotic.
my last one took 13 days !usually 5-7 on other occassions good luck .On one occassion was told by my gp surgery to ring microbiology itself as they had heard nothing ! hope not to long for you x
This may not be relevant but tests if you have bronchiectasis can take some weeks and can show as negative when in fact you have an infection. This is because the sample has missed the infected bit. Tricky, a blood test can show increased white blood cells which indicate infection. I have great problems with this issue. Good luck.
Here (Malvern, Worcestershire) it takes about 4-7 days from when you submit to GP. We often have to chase the results though as we no longer have a specific GP on our case. The results go up on the computer system, it seems, but you then have to get a GP to look at them and react accordingly. All that's assuming that a specific GP hasn't told me to submit the sample and I'm just putting it in on spec because mucus has turned funny colour.
I would check with your surgery, if they are anything like mine and have been known to file the report without informing anybody or even worse put it in the doctors inbox and she is still on mat leave x
