Poor horse. It cannot even move its head. Not even to cough. Is there an explanation of all the restraints ?

The restraints stop the horse panicking and injuring itself or it’s handlers. Only on whilst it receives nebuliser treatment.

Thank you for that explanation Bevvy.

He/she may have aspergillosis, animals can have it , just as humans can. I used to work with horses and the worst chore on freezing mornings was soaking their hay in great bins of water to wash out the mould spores and dampen the feed so as not to inhale the spores.

That's interesting to know, thank you for the information.

Thought u might like to know that u can put hay in a steamer which is good for horses with lung problems,. I have, 2 people, that do that for their, horses, on my Livery yard. You can buy them online, kills spores, and, removes, dust and smells, lovely too

I didn’t know that! I bet the stable hands don’t wear masks either. Aspergillus is a very sneaky mould, gets everywhere as I know to my cost and although you can dampen it down it always comes back

In those days I had no idea humans inhaling mould spores was dodgy, I was lucky too as I've a mild allergy to aspergillus.

I'm sure there are so many of us who did awful things in the past without wearing a mask 😷 and of course animals have no choice. I hope you're feeling better eleanordigby. ××

have heard of farmers lung but vever thought about the horse eating the hay !poor horse. i used to work on open bench with fungal culture plates until a few years before i retired it was decided that it was hazardous and had to work with sealed cultures and in a safety hood

used sellotape on growing fungus isolate to take an inmpression of the spores that could be looked at under micro scope ______ under my nose !

M aybe I should tell the consultant about that again .

Never thought about animals needing that treatment, especially horses but why they should be any different when it comes to lung disease really shouldn't be surprising.

I have never heard of this before. I suppose because I was just a kid, knocking around on native, outdoor living ponies who were more unlikely to have such problems (or if they did, they would unfortunately not be offered such remedies). But yes, medicine for animals has come on leaps and bounds which is great unless it is used to keep an animal alive with no quality of life. This guy is beautiful and looks perfectly happy! Interesting to see, thank you Morrison xx

my daughter used to gently exercise an asthmatic horse …both on Ventolin .

My three cats were diagnosed as asthmatic too…constant cough and wheeze .

Its good that horse is getting treatment, I was surprised when saw it, and posting on here probably had good effect. Glad my Nebulising doesn’t have to be done 4 times daily! Hope you’re better now. Jean x
