Sailing, part 1

being seasick on small boat on holiday really surprised me, given earlier boating experience.

About 1975 my husband won a new GP14 sailing boat. We took it to local sailing club and they kindly helped fit ropes and sails etc. We bought necessary life jackets for ourselves and two young daughters and gradually learnt what to do. We decided not to race and had leisurely sails, had to launch it by walking into water. When we were used to it, we heard about Place Manor at St Just in Roselland, Cornwall, opposite St Mawes. This was then operating as guest house and had a quay where boats would be stored and launched. All the other guests were sailors. We bought an outboard motor as a safety precaution, occasionally used it. Sailed to beaches, Falmouth, up Helford River, and even up to Truro by choosing time of high tide. We had 30 mins there by road bridge at high tide, time for loo and ice cream before sailing back past lovely views. This picture shows St Mawes castle, and St Anthony lighthouse in distance on waters edge. Happy Days x

thanks it’s long time ago, but remember joy of most days, and challenges of others when weather not so kind or sea rough x
