Hi, Bobby.

Peak flow is affected by all sorts of things, including your age, sex, fitness, high humidity, noxious fumes, etc. Each of us has a different peak flow average and range. Mine is around 320 now, down after 3 years from 350, and my lowest is around 240.

If you visit blf.org.uk/support-for-you/... , you will find a chart lower down on the page, which will help you find out more about your peak flow. You do need to check it regularly over time to find out whether your 104 is your normal or if it was a freak result.

Yes,

My peak flow is not good - 125 is a good reading - it is often about 90-95

About 5 years ago I could get it to 210

These readings are much lower than the normal for sex/age/weight etc.

Could you ask for another go? Peak flows can be variable and I believe there is a technique for doing them, though I've never found it. Mine hovers around 240- not brilliant, but could be worse.

thats not a particular good peak flow bobbyfloyd, mine is between 250 &300 but is fairly stable at that although not good. However alsorts of things can effect peak flow. Don't you test your own so you know your average .? Hope you and the family are as well as can be plus the dogs of course. Best wiskes ,hope your peak flow improves soon. Enjoy your weekend

Please note that this is just a very personal opinion: I’m not convinced that, for someone with COPD, peak flow numbers are very important. Mine is 210 has been that for ten years so doesn’t tell me anything useful. I rarely do it but did today just to see and yes, 210. I think the oxygen saturation number is more important.

Hi Bobby, my peak flow is usually about 150, sometimes just below or above (have reached 200 on a very good day). I was told by my respiratory nurse that although low this is "normal" for me and I should only worry if it goes much below that. Maybe 104 is "normal" for you?? Take care 😊

Bobby, a nurse once told me not to get too worried by NUMBERS. Rather concentrate on how you FEEL and your symptoms.

Please, I am not making light of your reading. Mine these days is much lower than it used to be. It is affected by so many factors.

So whatever number you decide is ‘your norm’ then that is really all you need to know. If the reading starts to drop below that number, then that is the time to contact someone medical for advice and help.

Good wishes, jill
