I think you should discuss this with your doctors. Am afraid I know nothing about this drug but doing a general internet search can find nothing about it affecting blood sugar levels. It may be this can affect a small number of people or it may be their are other reasons your blood sugars are of concern to you.

As said previously and also through comment by Charlie_G I can find nothing about OFEV that suggests it would affect blood sugar levels….. although obviously I am not a medic nor am I on this particular medication so literally just did an internet search which I am full aware can be a risky thing in itself!

no problem. As you say you are a new member maybe do a post to introduce yourself? No pressure but we are a friendly bunch of people who look out for each other as much as people want. Some post regularly or even daily, some less often but like I say we are a friendly bunch who are eager to help others.

thanks Bevvy probably will do this when I get a bit more used to it

With the caveat that I’m not medically qualified. Nintedanib (ofev) isn’t generally associated with hyperglycaemia as a side effect: are you also taking steroids to manage the nsip? Oral steroids like pred can effect blood sugar levels and make them high, even in people without diabetes. Steroid induced diabetes can actually occur for some individuals, and for those with pre-existing diabetes, my understanding is that maintaining control can become really tricky whilst taking them.

yeah this is interesting thanks , I think you maybe right iam on steroids as well and am finding it a slight issue, interesting that Dr seemed to say chance of slightly raised blood sugar’s as mine is more likely to be low . Think it’s just juggling the levels.

Ahh the evil steroids. Absolutely necessary but with lots of nasty side effects. Usually they cause high blood sugars so is interesting that yours have reduced. I am diabetic and know that when I take steroids my blood sugars always increase and I have side effects of high blood sugars eg very thirsty, rushing to the loo. I also find I eat anything not nailed down (lol) which again doesn’t help blood sugars.

think it’s a case of calculating my carbs right as sometimes mine goes really high as well so have been using insulin to correct but having the steroids does throw an unknown into the mix making normal calculations quite difficult ( I do have the advantage of a sensor)

Apologies for assuming it was highs - always pays to ask rather than assume! My understanding is that highs are the main issue with steroids, but my knowledge around the subject is purely academic. My other thought off the top of my head is around how you manage your diabetes: if it’s something other than insulin, or you use a combination of insulin alongside an oral med, could it be possible there’s an interaction? Ofev itself isn’t recognised as being associated with hypos or hypers: that doesn’t mean it categorically can’t be that, but it would seem more likely to be something to do with either the steroids themselves, or your diabetes meds in combination with the steroids. Have you got a diabetes nurse you can ask for advice?

think your exactly right Charlie , my bloods were normally ok but having the steroids made them higher so adjusted insulin accordingly but in some cases over calculating but steroids don’t seem to always have the same effect, also obviously with ofev u have to have the 12 hr gap between doses so I think again my diabetes has had to adjust to different eating habits and times , hopefully starting to get a grip , just bad when I have hypo in the middle of a coughing fit thanks again

I take Ofev. At the time of my last HbA1c I had been taking Nintedanim for 8 months. My A1c was stable.
