Today I saw something I have never saw before a fly perched on my kitchen water tap drinking the residue water from the tap joint. It never even budged when I touch the tap . I thought it was dead but then I noticed its tiny tube sticking into the tap joint. A few minutes later it was gone just stopped by for a drink. 😊

Signs of drought
Wow, I’ve never seen anything like that before Katie. Must have really needed a drink. Xxx❤️
That's crazy!
It is , theres like a joint on my tap it was sitting there as if it was feeding or drinking and did not move , very unusual for a fly. It was a quite large one. I have had a few dying in this heat at the windows. I could see all its movements I have never seen a fly so close up before, it was like those films you see of birds in motion. Wish I had a movie camera set up.
How interesting. Even the smallest and commonest wildlife can surprise us. xxx
Thats the time you think, why didnt I have my camera nearby and we dont think until its too late. I have a couple of pots in the garden that i fill up with water everyday, its amazing what comes by to have a drink. I like watching the magpies, they have been really thirsty this year x
I have a tub in the garden which Ifill with water and sometimes put a little fruit out, the two mating magpies take the fruit back to their nest . We have a tree next door which over hangs my garden and makes a lovely meeting area for birds and its cool so up in the branches they sing and down below they feed. We also have pidgeons too but they are a bit messy, Saw a yellow hammer in the tree the other day and we have a pink pigeon in the area bred by a neighbour . Enjoy your weekend
Aaaw how lovely Kate, I love watching the birds, sadly there arent many around in my area now. All the little birds have gone, we just have magpies , pidgeons and some crows. Its so quiet in the garden now, its horrid. When younger I can remember coming home from work and all the roofs had been chirping, its was so noisy but welcoming. I am sure land that they lived on has been used for housing and there was some talk about banning slug pellets as they thought this might have killed off some of the smaller birds. Not the same sitting in the garden now x
Similar here Izb1, We used to grow veg and have a greenhouse . The birds were profuse then they used to nest in empty pots in the greenhouse as its door was broken and feed on the fruit we grew as soon as it was ripe. We had nesting boxes too and I live in an industrial area so it proves whats in the garden is what changes the creature content . I now have a very clinical garden , easy to maintain but less visitors like frogs ,hedgehogs and birds. But did have an urban squirrel visit the other day.
