Hello all, would like to warn you I have just recovered from Norovirus, but was really frightened at the effects on my health. For 48 hrs a water only diet . But it made me loose 17kg in weight over 4days, my breathing was extraly impaired it was very difficult to even get out of bed very frightening for someone on their own. My bowels were such that there was no urge to go it was just running like a turned on tap. Iwas even struggling to drink water. It also means no drugs are being absorb which could effect your other health issues. Fortunately I have survived and followed guidelines not to have contact till three days after symptoms cease . But I feel really upset at the suggestion that I was telling lies I would not wish this bug on anyone. My local newspaper today says there have been 700 reported cases in the last few weeks. I am recovering but felt people should know how bad this is and it is on its usual winter rounds in some areas. Stay well all.

Oh Katie so sorry to hear this, you’ll be feeling pretty battered & weak so be kind to yourself while recovering.

Some probiotics would be a good idea to help restore good gut flora & if you can a light diet to begin with.

Hope you feel better soon! 💐🌺

I’m so sorry to hear that you have been so poorly. I know so many people who have recently been laid low by some form of ‘tummy bug’ in various degrees of seriousness that I am wondering if there is an epidemic which we are not being warned about. The problem is that so many people go into public spaces when they are still infectious with all types of viruses and general hygeine amongst the population us abysmal.

I am still wiped out by a virus which I would swear was flu if I hadn’t had my jab and of course, it has set off my bronch and I am taking cipro in the hope that I can avoid IV.

I do hope that you are back to yourself soon.

Hope you begin to improve soon , these bugs are worse than colds & flu and reduce our resistance to flares in our chronic health x

That sounds horrendous and I hope you start to recover from it soon. It's one of the things I dread getting. I work in a shop and obsess about washing my hands but even so I can't wash my hands every time I touch anything. Some people think once they feel better they're no longer contagious but you're right, I think it's three days you're not supposed to be in contact with people. I really hope that you start to build up your strength again soon and start to feel better from the whole thing.

This bug is quite common especially in communities. I agree it is awful even when i was a lot younger i couldnt do any thing for over a fortnight. It does have a worse effect on older people as does the other problem bug

c. difficile. It is very infectious and also appears on cruise ships sometimes despite the fact that the crew are well aware of this and usually are alert at buffets ( in my limited experience on Saga ships )

Incidentally there was a doctor talking on the radio recently bout her work with c difficile and bacteriophages used as therapy. We can only hope that this therapy becomes practible

I do hope you feel better soon. You lost a lot of weight and the loss of so much fluid causes your electrolyte balance to be disrupted so drink as much liquid as possible. I had terrible backache for ages when i had it.

Best wishes

Had noticed a bit of low back pain, I even had a pain in my head which is rare for me. But each day sees a little improvement so fingers crossed I can rebuild my strength . My weight seems to have stabilised now I am eating again, it is so scary when living alone frightened of falling ect when we are weak. Thanks for reply

Tried to reply again but it has got lost somewhere so i wii try again .

Good i am glad to are beginning to feel better. Just remember to drink lots of water.

It is frightening being alone when you are ill. I try to carry a phone with me all the time in a pocket. A friend fell over using her phone as a light in the dark. The phone fell from her hands, and she had broken her pelvis. I do not know how ever she managed to get help , just too traumatic to talk about.

Oh Katie you sound as though you have been to Hell and back! You poor lady and living alone makes it all so much more frightening it really does. So well done you for coping all by yourself. I hope you have friends and possibly neighbours who would check in on you? This nasty virus seems to be a cross the whole country and it worries me. Well done on getting through the worst part and now you must take everything slowly until you regain your strength💪💗.

My freinds were ringing each day to check I was OK, I have a system that works well for most things but not when its a virilant bug as you don't want to infect others. Glad it happened at home not a public place or I might be in hospital. Its much easier to cope at home with these type of illness no matter how difficult to cope., some of it being the embarassment of being out of control of your own body. On the up again now though thanks for support.

Hi Katie. Good to read you're recovering from what sounds a horrible experience. What area do you live? I haven't seen anything in the news about this?

I live in the West Midlands and it was in the Local Evening Telegraph for Coventry. But I recall someone on here the week before going to A&E from another part of the Country who had been ill for four days. Think it might have been Skis. Take Care

I was born in a village called Cwmgwrach. Meaning is Valley of the Witches. My husband calls me the Cwmgwrach Witch because He swears I have powers lol. Mind you I do have an unusual sixth sense. Dont mess with the Witch or I could put a spell on you lol. 😱😱💕 I will send some of my Powers to wish you Good Health xx I'll be out on my broomstick at Halloween lol xSheila 💕

I used to have a broomstick hanging on my wall, but it is long gone now. Have to admit I have a kind of 6th sense, its that feeling somethings not quite right and isn't going to work out. But thats life and some of us have more misfortune than others . Enjoy your day x

I class myself as being lucky. Although diagnosed with severe COPD 10yrs ago I am still here and doing ok. I am a very Positive person and dwell on the things I CAN do not what I can't. My family are very supportive and my Granddaughter is my reason to keep going.. we do the school runs and love it all .take care and lots of love xxSheila.

Sorry to hear you have been so poorly Katie, its so hard when you live alone. I try to always have something cooked in the freezer for times like this, the last thing you want to do is cook when recovering. I know what you mean about not being in hospital and recovering at home, you are so open to other infections especially in hospital and there is nothing like your own bed. Try to have plenty of liquids and look after yourself well, it will take a few weeks , I do wish you well. Irene x

I feel Ok except for fatigue and still a bit of indigestion , but don't want any other things right now if I can help it especially as this is the time of year when cold bugs start the rounds which is no good when you have chest problems is it ???? Fingers crossed I pick up Ok as my daughter- in- law is due in December for a visit from Australia. Hope you are keeping well.x

Izb1 profile image
Izb1 in reply tokatieoxo60

I am not surprised you are feeling fatigued, this will have knocked you for six, try to rest up as much as possible. I also live alone and know what its like when you need something like a cuppa but cant get out of bed to make it. I am sure you will bet alot better by December but try to get some vitamins and minerals to replace what you have lost. Wish you lived near I make a mean chicken soup that would put you back on your feet. Take good care x

Hi Katie. So sorry that you have been so poorly. It’s an absolute awful thing to have. This is why they close hospital wards as it spreads like wildfire. I hope you will continue improving. X

Hello Katie. 👋

I'm so sorry you've been so ill. What a dreadful thing to have had. I don't understand who said you were telling lies, but what a mean thing to suggest. I hope you can get your strength back soon. It must have taken an awful lot out of you. 17kg is a huge loss over a very short time frame. Sending love and some chicken soup. 🍲☕

Cas xx 😘

Thats what I need Chicken Soup now yum yum. But when I was ill could not eat anything its taken a week to rebuild my appetite I am just grateful it happened at home and I was not made more ill. Its only after that you realise it could have killed you. I could not beleive the scales but it will be good for my arthritis the loss of weight.. Hope you are still recovering nicely. xx
