Dehydration and diuretics

I read so much about the need for drinking plenty of fluids but at the same time I take a strong diuretic (Bumetanide) for HBP. However toilet trips are getting less frequent so do I need to drink even more to get the balance? I presume so.

YES you do. You can tell by the colour if it's healthy, it's a shame for the extra loo trips but on diuretics you need to drink more than usual to keep the kidneys healthy especially in hot weather.

No you don’t. I take Bumetanide and another strong diuretic and if you drink too much you will overload your kidneys and they will struggle. As long as your pee is pale coloured you will be fine. If it gets dark, then drink more.

Gosh, how do you cope with Bumetanide and another one?

Remember, in the hot weather you will be sweating too, so you will need to drink additional fluids to compensate. As said above, the colour of your urine should indicate whether you need to drink more. If it is dark, definitely. A pale straw colour is what to aim for.

Thanks for that. I'm certainly sweating.

I have Heart Failure, and I'm supposed to limit my fluid intake to a maximum of 2 litres. I also have Bumantide, but I don't take it when I'm going out as I need to be near a toilet when I do. I also have not been taking it during this tropical weather, as I think it could make you dehydrated. This is just my decision, nobody has advised me. I might send a text to my heart nurse see what she thinks.
